During a press conference at the NH Krystal Hotel Resort, Ujena Swimwear owner Bob Anderson announced that the 2006 edition of Ujena Bikini's Model Week will be held in Puerto Vallarta from Aug 29th through Sept 4th, 2006.

Puerto Vallarta - Traditionally, September is the slowest time of year for tourism in Puerto Vallarta. But if Ujena Swimwear owner Bob Anderson has his way, this coming September will no longer be jokingly referred to as Septi-hambre (hungry) in this tourism-driven city.

In a press conference held on Friday, January 20th at the NH Krystal Hotel Resort, Anderson announced that the 2006 edition of Ujena Bikini's Model Week will be held in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico from Aug 29th through Sept 4th, 2006.

"The Bikini Model Image Awards will be a very unique event," stated Anderson. "It is an event honoring bikini models and showcasing how the bikini, a simple fashion garment, has grown into one of the most powerful marketing tools in the world."

"This will be the biggest event of its kind in the world," said Anderson. "We will be presenting six women who are well-known for outstanding achievement in modeling, entertainment, business, or athletics. Each has modeled the bikini and feels this experience has helped advance their career," he added.

As of January 12th, the nominees were Elizabeth Hurley, Selma Hayek, Anita Hart (stuntwoman), Cindy Margolis, Karen Delaney-Wolverton (partner in LUSH Cosmetics), Pamela Anderson, Christie Brinkley, and Anna Kournikova (tennis player).

In addition, over 200 models and photographers from all over the world will be coming to Puerto Vallarta to compete for over $150,000 in gifts, prizes, trips, and cash awards. More importantly, winners will enjoy International recognition as the recipients of Ujena Swimwear's 2006 "Bikini Model of the Year" and "Bikini Photographer of the Year" awards.

"We are also inviting companies who are recognized and well known for incorporating the natural attraction of the bikini into their business success. Though only ten companies will be accepted to participate in this event, all of them will have the opportunity to build a powerful promotional campaign around finding their very own Bikini Model Image Award winner in Puerto Vallarta," said Anderson.

"Among the companies we are inviting to the Bikini Model Image Awards in Puerto Vallarta are: National Lampoon, One Model Place, Maxim, Fear Factor, FHM, Rockstar, Baywatch, Playboy, Howard Stern and Lush Cosmetics," Anderson noted.

Catherine Cross, Ujena public relations director, says the Bikini Image Awards event is much more than just an awards show. "As part of the Puerto Vallarta International Bikini Model Week 2006 and the 21st Annual Bikini Jam, it will feature on-location photo shoots, the Puerto Vallarta International Ujena 5k Run/Walk, nightly parties, fashion shows and musical entertainment," says Cross.

One of the Ujena Bikini Model Week events which will be open to the public is a "Clubkini" party at Christine's Nightclub to be held at the NH Krystal Vallarta Resort on September 1st.

The Puerto Vallarta International Ujena 5k run/walk will take place on September 2nd, following a route from the Krystal Hotel to the "Malecon," an oceanfront walkway that separates Banderas Bay and Paseo Diaz Ordaz, the main street in downtown Vallarta.

The race is unique in that it is the only such 5k run in the world that allows the general public to run alongside bikini models and elite runners, since contestants in the Bikini Jam are required to compete and earn points for finishing.

"Over 700 runners are expected to participate, and a portion of the entry fees will be donated to Cruz Roja Mexicana (Red Cross)," says race director Carlos Arceo, founder of the Puerto Vallarta International Half Marathon.

According to Arceo "Bob is hoping that the Puerto Vallarta International Ujena 5k run will raise a lot of money for the local chapter, and will also make his own personal donation to Cruz Roja in Puerto Vallarta."

"This is the 19th year we've held the Ujena 5k in different cities, including Cancun, Cabo and San Francisco," says Anderson. "I have run in all of them and I hope to run the course in under 20 minutes this year," he adds.

At the conclusion of the 5k run, Ujena will be hosting a Party by the Sea in downtown Puerto Vallarta. Later in the evening, the Ujena Costume Party will take place at the NH Krystal Hotel Resort's signature restaurant, Bogart's.

"The First Annual Bikini Model Image Awards in Puerto Vallarta is not just a pageant," Anderson is clear to point out. "It is a very important and unique modeling and photography event that will capture the attention of millions of people," Anderson concluded.
