The Stars Align in Riviera Nayarit

Riviera Nayarit, Mexico - One of Mexico’s most acclaimed film festivals kicks off this December 5th - 9th, 2007 in Riviera Nayarit. The 4th Annual Vallarta Film Festival founded by Robert James Roessel and Maria Jose Zorrilla with co-founders, the Academy Award winning actress, Anjelica Huston (Addams Family Values, Prizzi’s Honor, The Grifters) and Danny Huston (The Constant Gardener, The Aviator), features cinema from the Americas. The festival’s line-up includes independent films and major motion pictures from Canada, North America, Latin America and South America as well as documentaries with an environmental theme.

Events and film screenings are scheduled to take place in Riviera Nayarit and Puerto Vallarta with the opening ceremony at Playa del Sol Grand in Flamingos, Riviera Nayarit and closing ceremony at The El Tigre Golf Club also in Riviera Nayarit. The Vallarta Film Festival will open with The Grand, a film directed by Zak Penn and starring Woody Harrelson, Ray Romano, Werner Herzog and Jason Alexander. The Grand is an improvisational comedy which centers on a high stakes poker game in Las Vegas.

The highly-anticipated The Darjeeling Limited directed by Wes Anderson and featuring Anjelica Huston, Adrien Brody, Jason Schwartzman, Owen Wilson and Natalie Portman will also be screened at the Festival. The Darjeeling Limited focuses on the remarkable relationship of three American brothers who have not spoken to each other in a year who set off on a train journey and spiritual quest across India with a plan to find themselves and bond with each other.

Visitors will also have the opportunity to view the comedy, One Long Night, directed by David Siqueiros which focuses on a young Mexican-American businessman from Orange County, California, whose life is changed over the course of one night through a series of off-beat and hilarious encounters with residents of Mexico City. The film stars Pedro Armendairz, Jr., Itati Cantoral, Hector Suarez Gomiz, Ed Begley, Jr. and Paul Rodriquez.

The Marco Kreuzpaintner directed film, Trade makes its bow at the Festival and features the talents of Academy Award-winning actor Kevin Kline, Kate del Castillo and the young talents of Alicja Bachleda, Cesar Ramos and Paulina Gaitan. Produced by Roland Emmerich, Trade is a story about Adriana (Paulina Gaitan), a 13-year-old girl from Mexico City whose kidnapping by sex traffickers sets in motion a desperate mission by her 17-year-old brother, Jorge (Cesar Ramos), to save her. As Jorge dodges immigration officers and incredible obstacles to track his sister’s abductors, he meets Ray (Kevin Kline), a Texas cop whose own family loss to sex trafficking makes him an ally in the boy's quest.

Other film highlights include Good Time Max, the directorial debut of James Franco (An American Crime and Spiderman) and Amexicano, a winner at Tribeca Film Festival, which explores the bond between an illegal immigrant and a blue-collar Italian-American from Queens.

The host for this year’s Film Festival will be Mexican actor, Aarón Díaz who will officiate the opening ceremonies. Comedian Paul Rodriquez will be the emcee for the closing awards ceremony at the El Tigre Country Club, Riviera Nayarit.

The not-for-profit Film Festival has hosted tens of thousands of film lovers over the years and is renowned for its extraordinary commitment to raising the public’s consciousness with its environmental films which it has been showcasing since its inception. Film categories include: Hollywood Studio Showcase, New Films from Canada, Latin Contemporary Films, American Independent Cinema, Environmental Films and Documentaries and Mexican Short Films. The program features an Opening Night Gala, Sponsor Gala Dinner, Film Festival Celebrity Tribute, Closing Awards Ceremony, a Filmmakers Brunch and Educational Panels and Seminars which take place every day during the duration of the Film Festival.

Celebrity guests in the past have included Anjelica Huston, Danny Huston, Diego Luna, John C. Reilly, Maria Conchita Alonso, Alfonso Cuaron, Roger Corman, Carolina Hererra, Bruce Weber, Fred Willard, Ana Claudia Talancon, Leslie Nielsen, Luis Mandoki, Rodrigo Prieto, Juliet Taylor, Marion Dougherty and many others.
