Tropical Storm Odile 3-Day Cone (track this storm at the NOAA website)

At 1200 UTC, the centre of tropical storm Odile was about 90 miles west of Acapulco, Mexico and about 85 miles south- southeast of Zihuatanejo, Mexico.

A hurricane watch is in effect from Tecpan de Galeana to Punto San Telmo. A tropical storm warning is in effect from Punta Maldonado westward to Punta San Telmo. A tropical storm watch remains in effect for the Pacific coast of Mexico west of Punta San Telmo to Manzanillo.

Odile is moving towards the northwest at close to 14 mph. A continued northwest or west-northwest motion is forecast for the next 24 hours, with a turn to the west and slower forward speed expected on Sunday. The forecast track takes the centre of Odile very close to the coast of Mexico and only a slight deviation to right of track would bring the centre onshore in the warning area.

Maximum sustained winds are near to 65 mph, with higher gusts, and strengthening is expected during the next 48 hours. Odile could become a hurricane later today, or tomorrow.

Estimated minimum central pressure is 996 mb. Tropical storm force winds extend up to 70 miles from Odile’s centre.

Odile could produce rainfall of 4 to 8 inches over parts of southern Mexico, with possible isolated amounts of 12 inches. These rains could result in life threatening flash floods and mud slides.
