Take time to savor the flavors. Make a meal an occasion. Enjoy food traditions from the Bay of Banderas at Daiquiri Dick's. Be sure to secure your seat for the special Slow Food feast on Saturday, November 28 at 7:30 pm.

"We have always believed in the philosophy of eating seasonally and locally as much as we can," says Hnoi Latthitham, restaurant manager, "The Slow Food movement is just one way of supporting these ideals of this group. We also believe in buying from our local farmers."

The six-course meal will feature local fish and seafood, cheeses, vegetables and pork. You will be surprised at the great combinations of really fresh flavors.

"We rely on our local growers to deliver what's in the season and our special dinner menu is designed to evolve around what is available here and now," says Hnoi, "It is sometimes challenging to set a specific dish for a specific date, especially when the fruit or vegetable is not quite ready for picking."

Using fresh ingredients is the key to any good meal, but buying these locally is part of the Slow Food movement. Everything is also made from scratch and nothing comes out of a can or box. The staff at Daiquiri Dick's has developed many long-time relationships with their providers who harvest their seafood from the Pacific ocean, like shrimp from San Blas and various produce items from Valle de Banderas and El Tuito.

The Slow Food movement focuses on taking a break from fast food in an ever-increasing frenzied lifestyle. Learn to really appreciate the fabulous local fare when it is prepared with love for the art of cooking and yet remains a truly neighborhood event. The Slow Food feast at Daiquiri Dick's emphasizes recreating an interest in what is grown and harvested in the Bay of Banderas.

Take part in this event for $450 pesos. The price does not include beverages or gratuity. Reservations are highly recommended since seating is limited.

"Other than the obvious reason, it's a healthy way to eat, we are trying to be conscientious about doing our part in using less fuel to bring in what's served at your table," says Hnoi, "Our carbon footprint is on our mind. Each year we are getting more and more producers in the area to bring their products in, the less footprint we will leave. And of course we'll feature the special Slow Food menu again. It will take time to make people aware of the Puerto Vallarta Chapter of Slow Food, but it's definitely a worthwhile cause."
