Celebrating Los Mangos 13th Anniversary

A smiling crowd turned out for the 13th Anniversary Celebration of Biblioteca Los Mangos and the inaguration of "Rincon de Sally" (Sally's Corner).
On Friday, November 27, 2009 a smiling crowd turned out for the 13th Anniversary Celebration of Biblioteca Los Mangos and the inauguration of "Rincon de Sally" (Sally's Corner). It is due to the generous people of the area, both locals and foreigners alike, that Los Mangos has become as successful and popular as it has been and as well, for the creation of Sally's Corner.

Sally Conley passed away last year but her memory lives on and her dream of instilling the importance of reading to children will continue via the beautifully remodeled children's area at Los Mangos. Sally left a generous donation to Los Mangos and will be used for new bookshelves and the purchase of books in Spanish.

A wonderful highlight of the evening was a performance by the Vallarta Chamber Orchestra, consisting of David White, Sharon Baughman-White, Kathy Overly, Mary Maclachlans and Rebecca Cothren (visiting from Alaska!). Young Andrea Aragon thrilled the audience with her soaring voice - this girl is already a star!

The staff of Los Mangos outdid themselves with food, decoration and organization. Hats off to them all!

Beginning December 3, 2009 artist Carlos Galicia will have an exhibit at Los Mangos of his amazing miniature paintings on pocket watches, spoons, brooches and other tiny objects. These items will be for sale with 30% of the sales being donated to Los Mangos. Definitely an exhibit to see to believe!

Note that Los Mangos will be closed from December 19, 2009 through January 3, 2010 for the Christmas holiday vacations.

There will be a training session for volunteers in January. If you are interested in assisting at the Library, please contact me for further information. We would love to have you!
