The summer months have literally just floated by and here we are at the beginning of October, ready to start the fall and winter season in the Banderas Bay area – high season! We are ready! It is safe! It is gorgeous! It’s cooling off a little bit each day!

The past few months we have focused our attention on creating improvements for our existing clinics and projects, creating new ones, and putting together an outstanding list of events, all focused on your health and well-being.

For those preparing to return to the area for the winter months it is important to remember to do the following:

• Make sure you have proper insurance coverage.

• Make sure the medications that you need to take are available in the area here.

• Bring any pertinent medical reports or studies with you in case you need to see a physician during your stay here.

• Note this number for ambulance service: (322) 225-9289 (Ambulancias Intermedic)

We are extremely proud to present the new HealthCare Resources PLUSCard. This is a benefit/discount card available for individuals, couples, families and companies for varying lengths of time: 6 months, 1 year and 2 years.

Prices begin at only $250 pesos for a program that offers so many benefits and discounts! Please go to HealthCareResourcesPV.com. At the bottom of the home page, you can click on "Download the PlusCard Benefits Chart" at the top of the page.

Here you will see the multitude of services offered with this card. It is important to remember that card holders will also receive numerous benefits not on the chart as we add specials each month – and some surprises as well! The email contact for further information and to purchase the card is located at the bottom of the chart. Please feel free to send any questions.

Note: If you purchase your card in the next few days, you can use it should you sign up for some of our October clinics.

HealthCare Resources now has a blog: A lot of very detailed information on insurance, how it works here, local physicians along with some other amusing ramblings. Please click HERE to check it out. You may sign up on the home page where you will be automatically notified when a new update is posted. We are also now on Facebook. Just search HealthCare Resources Puerto Vallarta.

Events and Fun Stuff!

I have put together a calendar (as complete as possible!) of charity events in the area from November through next spring. If you would like a copy of this calendar so you can "Save the Date," let me know & I would be happy to send you a copy!

October 5 through Spring 2011
PVRPV begins BINGO every other Tuesday. Fun evenings all to support Pasitos de Luz. The summer before this past one, Tim and his PVRPV staff had a hit on their hands by hosting Bingo on a weekly basis. It was so popular they have decided to hold it all winter! Click HERE for details, or you can email Tim directly at tim(at)pvrpv.com.

October 6th
Do you like to bowl? This summer’s Puerto Vallarta bowling league was a blast! PVRPV's Winter bowling season begins on October 6th. Perhaps you’d like to participate, or be a "sub" now and then. For more information on this fun activity, click HERE or email Tim at tim(at)pvrpv.com.

October 10, 2010
"FriendRaiser" for our local fireman and rescue personnel. These folks have worked like mad the past few months with all of the rain-caused problems in the area. Let’s show them our appreciation as we have a Spaghetti Lunch from 2 pm until 6 pm. Tickets: $150 pesos. Click HERE for details, or contact me or Gary Green at gary(at)greenandassociates.org. This promises to be a blast!

October 15, 2010
US Consular Networking Breakfast – 9 am – Hotel Rosita – $100 pesos
Bring your business cards, flyers and a smile - and network! This month’s focus is Hospital Regional. They are desperate for supplies so we ask that you bring any of the following: bandages, newborn formula, diabetic supplies, receiving blankets, adult or children’s Tylenol (new, unopened please), blankets. For a longer list or questions, please email me directly.

A few other tidbits...

Hacienda Jalisco is now working with Superior Tours offering economically priced day tours that include a fabulous lunch! Consider a day trip – and then come back to spend the night! We are also proud to announce our very own blend of Hacienda Jalisco coffee! I have lots for sale. Contact me for details.

Los Mangos Library
This is not only a library but a true community center. We are planning some FUN and inexpensive "mini-fundraisers" to begin in November, along with the annual Anniversary Party. We need volunteers! For further information check out this article, or send me an email.

Miralo
Everyone’s favorite glass and mosaic shop has moved! Miralo is now located in El Centro on Calle Iturbide. And master mosaic-artist Rodolfo is now giving classes. Definitely add this to your "to-do" list!

Whale Watching Season
The whales will be here before you know it! Book your whale watching tour now! By far the best tour operator in the area is Ocean Friendly. Oscar (and Keith) are passionate about the whales, the bay, and providing a once in a lifetime experience. Visit OceanFriendly.com for further information.

It has been an economically difficult summer for many – especially for many local charities. Consider a donation, whether monetary or physical, to one of the many worthwhile charities in the area. Please email me for the current "Wish List."

Mark Your Calendars!

November 22, 2010 – Medical Expo at the Hotel Marriott sponsored by the US Consular Agent, the Hotel Marriott and HealthCare Resources. This day long event (9 am until 7 pm) is free to the public and will feature a myriad of exhibits/booths by physicians, clinics, labs, hospitals, complimentary medicine providers, spas, insurance providers – any and everything health related! We will even have healthy cooking classes!

We are proud to announce that UCSD Hospital (San Diego) will be attending and one of their presentations will be "Health Care Reform and how it affects you." This is worth returning early to the area! Watch BanderasNews for weekly updates, focusing on various exhibitors and what will be offered.

Do you think there is enough to do in October? Just wait until you see the calendar for November!

For those of us that live here full time and have been here all summer, it’s been an extra wet summer. The plus side is that mountains are lush and green, the bay sparkles, sunsets are stunning. We are all anxious, ready and waiting for our "snowbirds" to return! Let the season begin!
