November 04, 2010

Charity Bingo for Pasitos de Luz is held every other Tuesday at 6 pm at Nacho Daddy, 180 Basilio Badillo on the south side of Puerto Vallarta. Come out and help us reach our goal of $200,000 pesos.

Considering the Day of the Dead celebrations and the American Election the third night of Charity Bingo for Pasitos de Luz at Nacho Daddy had an amazing turnout of over 80 enthusiastic players. Juan Carlos was at the helm calling out the bingo numbers and a fun time was had by all.

Yolanda from Pasitos de Luz came down and joined in the fun for a change... bringing luck to her table, where there were 2 game winners and the 50/50 winner, Mikki Prost of Encore Consignment Boutique who took home over $2650 extra pesos. Way to go, Mikki!

Javier Castañeda from Cork+Bottle at Los Mercados, took around a dozen or so of La Bodega de Nina's delicious cookies during the break and sold them for $10 pesos each, all of which Nina donated back to Pasitos de Luz. He sold out before he even made it to the second table. Awesome job! Now, we just need to convince Nina to bring more!

All in all, we raised $12,184.60 pesos of desperately needed funds for Pasitos de Luz. We would like you to know that the organizing committee had the opportunity this past week to see the books for this amazing charity. The meticulous bookkeeping was very refreshing and we were able to verify exactly where every pesos donated went.

It is staggering what the expenses just for the basic necessities come to each month. Even with the volunteers there that come out religiously, there are underpaid staff members deferring their salaries in order for Pasitos de Luz to afford to keep the lights on.

Many doctors, therapists and other specialists either donate their services or hugely reduce their fees to only cover the basic costs so the families and children do not go without the care they so desperately need. When there is no government support or individual benefactors, they have to rely on the generosity of the general public, YOU, in order to do the work that they do.
