Perro Bravo to Present 'The Rocky Horror Show' Oct. 31

June 5, 2017

The production will be directed by Alain Perreault with Paco Ojeda in charge of music direction. The cast will include many of the talented performers associated with previous Perro Bravo box-office successes.

UPDATE: Having learned that a similar version of Richard O'Brien's 'The Rocky Horror Show' was already in process this fall in Puerto Vallarta, Perro Bravo has decided to cancel the concert version recently announced to take place October 31, 2017 at Incanto.

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - Perro Bravo, an established theater production company in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, has just announced plans to present a concert version of Richard O'Brien's award-winning musical, The Rocky Horror Show, a humorous tribute to science fiction and horror B movies from the 1940s through the early 1970s.

Performances - early evening and midnight shows - will take place on Halloween (October 31, 2017) at Incanto Vallarta, the new live entertainment venue that's conveniently located at Insurgentes 102, next to Isla Rio Cuale in the city's cosmopolitan Emiliano Zapata neighborhood.

The production will be directed by Alain Perreault with Paco Ojeda in charge of music direction. The cast will include many of the talented performers associated with previous Perro Bravo box-office successes, such as Tomás Urtusástegui's Princesas Desesperadas, Peter Shaffer's Equus, and other plays that have been presented statewide.

About the decision to present a concert version of The Rocky Horror Show, Perreault commented, "concert staging of shows, along with play readings are increasingly common in theater destinations, worldwide. Not only do they ignite the creativity of the cast and audiences alike, they also provide an excellent opportunity to focus on the story of the play, and not so much on the production."

In addition, the project will help support Biblioteca Los Mangos, an important non-profit cultural center in Puerto Vallarta, in fulfilling their academic mission for 2018.

"I've been made aware by Paco of the exciting work being planned at Biblioteca Los Mangos to promote oral tradition through storytelling: how to deliver it, how to receive it and how to preserve stories that might otherwise be lost forever. This concert staging of The Rocky Horror Show represents for us in Puerto Vallarta a new approach to presenting elaborate stage productions in a more uncomplicated fashion. It will be a pilot project through which we wish to celebrate the stories themselves; and in this case, the music as well," Perreault added.

Alain Perreault has participated in Puerto Vallarta's performance arts scene as a director, producer and actor for almost a decade, with leading roles on Larry Shue's The Foreigner, Bill C. Davis' Mass Appeal, a Stephen Sondheim revue, a previous production of The Rocky Horror Show, and a recurring appearance as head judge for the first season of The Voice of Vallarta.

In 2015 he directed a critically acclaimed production of Peter Shaffer's Equus, and in 2015-16 he starred in My Broadway, Anyway..., a self-penned one-man musical show. He has shared the stage with Canadian pianist Jean Guy Comeau, Argentinean duo, Bohemia Viva, and US recording artist, Renee Armand. In 2013, he co-founded Perro Bravo along with award-winning local actor, Cesar Bravo. Princesas Desesperadas, their freshman production, became an instant hit in Puerto Vallarta, and was presented in both English and Spanish, locally and state-wide.

Paco Ojeda is best known locally for his compelling music appreciation lectures at Biblioteca Los Mangos, and his "edutainment" stage performances celebrating popular singers and songwriters while showcasing local and visiting talent. He has a Bachelor of Music degree from Berklee College of Music and after graduation, he pursued Choral Conducting studies at New England Conservatory of Music. He has shared the stage with renowned local and visiting performers, including Kim Kuzma, Amy Armstrong, Bohemia Viva, Alain Perreault, La Boquita, Juan Pablo Hernández and Kharla Barragán, among others.
