Puerto Vallarta Observes Veterans & Remembrance Day

November 5, 2018

The Jay Sadler Project and American Legion Post 14 are organizing a Remembrance and Veterans Day event set to take place at 11:00 am on November 11th at Parque Hidalgo in downtown Puerto Vallarta.

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - Whether you are visiting Mexico or have made it your home, there are certain traditions you don't want to lose.

For many expats and members of American Legion, Veteran's Day is one of those traditions, as is Remembrance Day (also known as 'Poppy Day' or 'Armistice Day'), a Memorial Day observed in Commonwealth countries since the end of World War I to remember the members of their armed forces who have died in the line of duty. This is the 100th anniversary for the observance.

This day is also recognized as a special day for war remembrances in many non-Commonwealth countries. Remembrance Day is observed on 11 November to recall the end of hostilities of World War I on that date in 1918.

To honor service members of the U.S. and Canadian armed forces, the American Legion and Jay Sadler Project are organizing a Veteran's / Remembrance Day memorial on Sunday, November 11th. The event will take place at 11:00 am at Parque Hidalgo, located on Calle Peru at Jesus Langarica in downtown Puerto Vallarta, with the Mexican Navy Zone Color Guard performing with their drum and bugle corps. Coffee, pastry and water will be provided starting at 10:30 am, courtesy of Holly Campbell.

To find out more about Jay Sadler Project/American Legion activities, visit jaysadlerproject.com or americanlegion14.org, stop by the headquarters at Steve's Sports Bar at Basilio Badillo 286 on the south side of Puerto Vallarta to ask for more information, email dennis2rike(at)hotmail.com, or call 322-138-8891.

Serving Puerto Vallarta, La Cruz and Guayabitos, the mission of American Legion Post 14 is to Support All Veterans in the Banderas Bay area; to maintain an updated website with information to assist Veterans, to provide sources for medical treatment in Vallarta, and to contribute to the community through various fund raising efforts. Meetings are held every 1st Thursday and 3rd Tuesday at Steve's Sports Bar. Visit AmericanLegion14.org for more information and meeting locations.

The Jay Sadler Project provides necessary resources to improve various institutions in the Banderas Bay area. These include day care centers, senior citizen homes and schools for the deaf, public schools in rural areas and other private charitable institutions. Provided building maintenance, repairs and install playgrounds in the community.

We appreciate the support by DIF and the Culture Department of the Municipal Government, the American Consultant, Jim Mawdesley & Donna Wong.
