Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico - Sculptors and would-be sculptors have a great opportunity in Puerto Vallarta. Internationally famous sculptor Jim Demetro is now giving classes in the art.

Beginning on February 18, Demetro will teach a beginner's class in figurative sculpturing. Classes are kept small with an emphasis on having fun as Demetro guides you through the process with a lot of personal attention.

Everything you need to learn the art of sculpturing is provided, including a live model, sculpting clay, and all the tools necessary to sculpt a figure about 16" tall. The end result can be molded and cast in a number of materials such as plaster, resin or bronze, or you can keep it in clay to be worked on later, as this oil based clay never hardens.

Held in the Demetro Gallery at Lazaro Cardenas #169, between the Plaza Mar Condominiums and the Hotel Eloisa, each class is five days long, Monday through Friday, from 10 am to 3 pm with a 40 minute break for lunch. The cost is $395 US dollars in cash or the equivalent in pesos.

This season's class schedule is as follows:

February 18th to the 22nd - Beginners class (Monday to Friday)
March 11th to the 15th - Beginners class
March 25th to the 29th - Advanced class for those who have taken the beginners class

Jim's sculpting classes always fill up fast, and are available on a first come, first served basis, so contact Jim TODAY on his U.S. cell at 1-971-201-6998, or by email at jimdemetro1(at)gmail.com.

Demetro is best known in Vallarta for his life size pieces. His Vallarta Dancers is the most photographed piece on the Malecón. The Washer Woman is a classic piece just outside Molino de Agua on the Malecôn. Lazaro Cardenas Park is home to Demetro's Andale Bernardo, a sculpture depicting two boys trying to get their donkey to move. And his life size statues of Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton can be found at Casa Kimberly, once the home of Elizabeth Taylor.
