Vallarta Medical Matters Conference Speakers - Part 2

February 8, 2019

Medical Matters 2019 will be held on February 11 from 9 am to 3 pm at the CasaMagna Marriott Puerto Vallarta Resort & Spa and feature over 50 healthcare-related exhibitors and non-stop speakers programs.

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - From 9 am to 3 pm on February 11th, you can meet physicians, ask questions, learn about local labs and diagnostic centers, hospitals – anything and everything to do with your health and well-being - during the 2019 Puerto Vallarta Medical Matters Conference at the Marriott CasaMagna Resort.

Sponsored by HealthCare Resources Puerto Vallarta, the US Consular Agency and the Hotel Marriott, this year's event features so many distinguished physicians speaking on such a wide variety of health-related topics, that we couldn't list them all in the "Vallarta Medical Matters Conference Speakers - Part 1" article published earlier this week, so here's a quick rundown of the speakers that were not previously covered:

Dra. Leslie Swindle - Cardiologist
The Ups and Downs of Atrial Fibrillation: What the Beat is Going On?
Salon VI-VIII at 10:15 am

Not just bicultural, but tricultural, Dra. Swindle was born in Canada to a Mexican mother and English father. She grew up in the United States, moved to Mexico City just in time for high school, attended medical school at the Universidad Anahuac of Mexico City (affiliated with the U.N.A.M.), and her speciality in Cardiology at the Hospital Español de Mexico in Mexico City. Her sub-specialty was done in Nuclear Cardiology in the Centro Medico Siglo XXI in Mexico City and at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. She also has a Clinical Fellow in Echocardiography at the Hospital Clinic in Barcelona, Spain as well as clinical fellow in Cardio-pulmonary Rehabilitation in Hospital Del Mar in Barcelona, Spain. She is the mother of two university sons, married and loves to travel! We love Dra. Swindle and welcome her to Medical Matters 2019!

Dr. Felipe Martinez - Pain Control Specialist & Dr. Benjamin Armenta - Dentist
All on Four! New Teeth in One Day!
Salon Cozumel/Mexico at 11:15 am

Dr. Felipe Martinez is from Guadalajara. He attended the Hospital General Occidente, specializing in adult and pediatric anesthesia, and then went on for further specialty in transplant and cardiac anesthesia. Not only he is he a wonderfully funny man, he looks at a patient in pain as a whole person, not just someone who has pain. He enjoys movies, golf, comic books and wrestling along with wrestling with his two little boys. When I asked him what is the best part about his job, he said that it is "when patients wake up from anesthesia and ask 'is it over?' and I say 'yes, it's over, how do you feel?' And then they smile and say they feel ok."

Dr. Benjamin Armenta attended dental school at Universidad Autonoma de Nayarit, University Internacional de Catalunya (Dental Implants and Prosthodontics), Instituto Odontoiatrici Mexico (Implantology) and the Mayo Clinic Education (All on 4 concept). He has a lovely, sparkling office in El Fluvial and is bilingual. When asked what he likes best about his job, he said, "I like making people smile!"

We welcome this dynamic duo to Medical Matters 2019!

Dra. Laura Garcia - OB/GYN & Dr. Adolfo Curiel - Cardiologist
Heart Attack in Women. #1 Killer.
Salon VI-VII at 12:15 pm

Dra. Laura Garcia and Dr. Adolfo Curiel are two of our favorites - and a married couple! Dra. Garcia, originally from Guadalajara, is a very popular OB/GYN and Dr. Curiel, a Vallartense, is a respected Clinical Cardiologist. They both attended Medical School at the University of Guadalajara and did their specialty training in Mexico City at Centro Medico de La Raza. They have two children and manage to keep their thriving practices and still have time for their children's many activities. Their topic, combined with their two specialties is an important one for all women! We are always so proud to work with them both and have them as speakers at Medical Matters 2019!

Dra. Fabiola Gallegos - Physical Therapy Rehab Specialist
Low Back Pain, Symptoms, Treatment and Differential Diagnosis
Salon I-III at 12:15 pm

Born in San Luis Potoso, Dra. Fabiola Gallegos is a physical therapy rehab specialist. She did her social service in two small towns near Zacatecas, Salinas and Escalerillas. She chose her particular specialty because she very much wanted to treat children and adults with disabilities. She is married and has an adorable son. She has a wide variety of hobbies and interests including theater (she used to be an actress!), soccer, reading, animals, movies and video games. She says that "Doctors save lives. Therapists make this life worthwhile!" Dra. Fabiola's topic is an important one as 'low back pain' is such a general statement, often misdiagnosed and mistreated. We welcome back Dra. Fabiola to Medical Matters 2019!

Dr. Manuel Hernandez - Orthopedic Surgeon
Osteoarthritis: A Global Perspective
Salon VI-VIII at 1:15 pm

Dr. Manuel Hernandez is a well-respected, highly experienced orthopedic surgeon in the area. He is known for his non-aggressive treatments - no surgery unless absolutely needed, which makes him very popular. From shoulder problems to broken bones - he's the man. His wife is a well-known and very kind anesthesiologist. (They also have a fabulous Dermatology store here in the area!) They have two young boys which, along with their busy practices, keep them running. Dr. Hernandez's topic will be a very popular one as osteoarthritis truly is a global problem! We welcome Dr. Hernandez to Medical Matters 2019!

Dr. Miguel Saldaña - Plastic Surgeon
Exicision of Face Cancers With Immediate Reconstruction
Salon Cozumel/Mexico at 12:15 pm

Dr. Saldaña is a graduate of the School of Medicine at the National Politechnical Institute in Mexico City, and did his residency in plastic and reconstructive surgery at the Centro Medico Nacional "Manuel Avila Camacho" at IMSS in Puebla. He is board certified by the Consejo Mexicano de Cirugia Plastica, Estetica y Reconstructiva and is an active member in the Mexican Association of Aesthetic and Reconstructive Plastic Surgery as well as the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. He has performed thousands of successful surgeries and has the skill, artistry and background, making him one of the leading plastic surgeons in Mexico. Dr. Saldaña places a primary emphasis on close, personal communication with all of his patients, believing the quality of the results begins with the quality of the relationship between patient and physician. His topic this year is new, innovative because of course, the face is so very important!

Dra. Nasheilli - Plastic Surgeon
Facial Plastic Surgery: Lifts and Fat Transfers
Salon I-III at 1:15 pm

Dra. Nashielli studied medicine at the University Autonoma of Guadalajara with a specialty in general surgery at University Hospital. She completed studies with the sub-specialty of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the Jalisco Institute of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. She also completed schooling in Cornell Hospital in New York, the Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital in New York, and the Shriner's Burn Center in Galveston, Texas. She also donates her time and skills to a cleft palate program in Guadalajara. Though she does all types of plastic surgery, when asked what is her favorite type to do, she said facial surgery. She is thrilled when a patient sees the wonderful (but subtle) transformation in their face which changes their entire outlook on life. Dra. Nashielli will speak on facial surgery including lifts and transfers of fat. A little bit interested? I sure am!

CasaMagna Marriott Puerto Vallarta Resort & Spa is located at Paseo de la Marina Norte #435 in the Marina Vallarta area. No pre-registration or reservations are required for the talks, just look for the Medical Matters Volunteers, who will direct you to the various salons.

Note: We suggest that you visit each speaker at their exhibit to ask questions and obtain further information, not at the talk. This is so we can continue to run on time.
