Oscar Winning & Documentary Film Series Continues

March 13, 2019

Also playing this week, as part of Democrats Abroad's 10th Annual Film Series, which continues at Nacho Daddy at 6 pm on Wednesdays through March 27, is the National Geographic documentary, Jane, on Wednesday, March 13.

Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico - The Democrats Abroad 2019 Academy Award Movie Series Encore continues at Incanto through March 18th, with Oscar-winning film screenings scheduled for March 14th and 15th, and political documentaries back by popular demand on March 17th and 18th.

Oscar-Winning Films

Thursday, March 14: A Star is Born
Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga fuse their considerable talents to depict the raw and passionate tale of Jack and Ally, two artistic souls coming together, on stage and in life. Theirs is a complex journey through the beauty and the heartbreak of a relationship struggling to survive. In this new take on the iconic love story, four-time Oscar nominee Cooper (American Sniper, American Hustle, Silver Linings Playbook) makes his directorial debut, and also stars alongside multiple award-winning, music superstar Gaga in her first leading role in a major motion picture.

Friday, March 15: The Favourite
This film portrays early 8th century England at war with the French. A frail Queen Anne (Olivia Colman) occupies the throne and her close friend Lady Sarah Churchill (Rachel Weisz) governs the country in her stead while tending to Anne's ill health and mercurial temper. When a new servant Abigail Masham (Emma Stone) arrives, her charm endears her to Sarah who takes her under her wing and Abigail sees a chance to return to her aristocratic roots. As the politics of war become quite time consuming for Sarah, Abigail steps into the breach to fill in as the Queen's companion, their friendship helping her to fulfill her ambitions and she will let nothing stand in her way.

Documentaries

Sunday, March 17: Active Measures
(followed by a 30-minute discussion)
The Los Angeles Times describes the movie as "A crash course in accepting that the 2016 U.S. election results were the greatest espionage operation in world history." Filmmaker Jack Bryan exposes a 30-year history of covert political warfare devised by Vladimir Putin to disrupt, and ultimately control, world events. The documentary follows a trail of money, real estate, mob connections and recorded confessions to expose an insidious plot that leads directly to the White House. With democracy hanging in the balance, Active Measures is a must-see.

Monday, March 18: Fahrenheit 11/9
(followed by a 30-minute discussion)
Filmmaker Michael Moore examines the current state of American politics, particularly the Donald Trump presidency and gun violence, while highlighting the power of grassroots democratic movements.

All movies are shown at 3:00 pm. Tickets are 150 pesos general seating and 250 pesos preferred (includes house drink and premium seating). Seats may be selected at the box office from 10 am to 11 pm daily, or ordered online at IncantoVallarta.com. We strongly suggest reserving your tickets as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.

Located at Insurgentes #109 at the Rio Cuale in downtown Puerto Vallarta, Incanto's theater features air conditioning, comfortable seating, drink service during the films and dining from 4 pm on their riverside terrace.

Also playing this week, as part of the Democrats Abroad 10th Annual Film Series with screenings at Nacho Daddy at 6:00 pm on Wednesdays, is Jane. Don't miss the opportunity to see this award-winning National Geographic documentary on the life and legacy of Jane Goodall on Wednesday, March 13. A discussion will follow the film's screening. Nacho Daddy is located at Basilio Badillo #287, only two blocks off the beach in the Romantic Zone.
