Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico - Semana Santa, the first week of the Easter vacation period, was one of intense activity for Puerto Vallarta Civil Protection and Fire personnel who, from April 13 through 21, provided 11,796 prevention services, 315 emergency services, and 16 water rescues.
In his report, the deputy director of Civil Protection and Fire, Adrián Bobadilla García, emphasized that the first week of 'Operation Semana Santa Segura 2019,' which began at 8:00 am on April 13th and concluded at 8:00 am on April 21st, was considered a success with only 315 emergency services registered, while in the same period of last year, 342 were attended.

Of the 315 emergency calls, it is noteworthy that 12 people were injured at home and 13 more were sick; 3 vehicular crashes and a rollover; 10 motorcycle accidents; 3 prehospital care; 34 injured on public roads; 24 fires in vacant lots, 17 garbage fires and 10 grassland fires; two personal property fires, one vehicle and another in a boat; and 17 swarms of bees; 19 false alarms and 13 services canceled.
Likewise, during this period, attention was paid to 4 people who died due to illness, one died due to suicide, in addition to a person who was run over, an electrocuted person, a person injured with a firearm, and one injured in a vehicular accident, among others.
The report states that 33.5% of the services performed correspond to the downtown area of the city; 24.4% to the El Pitillal delegation; 12.3% to Ixtapa; 10.8% to Las Juntas, and 10.4% to the Federal Maritime Terrestrial Zone, the rest were in the South side and Las Palmas areas.
The operation will continue until Sunday, April 28, the end of the Semana Santa and Pascua holiday vacation period, and Civil Protection authorities trust that through coordinated efforts, this week will again conclude with fewer incidents than in years past.
