The president also took aim at Grupo Carso, a conglomerate owned by Mexico’s Carlos Slim, for failing to complete a decade-old project to build a highway between Jala, Nayarit, and Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco. “A company has had the concession to build the highway here for more than 10 years but there’s no progress. I’m going to talk to them . . . [either] they finish it or the concession is taken away, it’s as simple as that,” López Obrador said. But Grupo Carso responded to the president’s attack last night, stating that the section of highway with problems is between Compostela, Nayarit, and Jala, and that it only took over responsibility for that stretch six months ago after another company abandoned it. The project is now back on track, Grupo Carso said. Improvements to roads and street lights, new sports centers, a library and seafront walkway in Bucerías were among the projects announced by President López Obrador during a visit to Nayarit and Jalisco Accompanying the president on his tour of the Pacific coast states were Román Meyer, Secretary of Agrarian Development and Urban Planning, Urban Planning Secretary Meyer said 530 million pesos (US $27.5 million) will be invested in Bahía de Banderas as part of the government program to improve the lives of residents of the working-class neighborhoods of Mexico’s leading tourist destinations. He said that staying in an exclusive hotel in Nuevo Vallarta or Punta Mita can cost as much as 200,000 pesos (US $10,400) a night but nearby neighborhoods where hospitality workers live have “great deficiencies.” The secretary said that 60 million pesos will go to the construction of a sports center and a childhood development center and upgrades to roads and street lighting in San Vicente. The town of Mezcales will get 30 million pesos to pave roads and improve public lighting, while Bucerías will receive 190 million pesos to build a seafront malecón, or promenade, a library, sports centers, a childhood development center and a park, Meyer said. Infrastructure projects will also be carried out in underprivileged neighborhoods of the resort city of Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, where López Obrador and his secretaries concluded their tour. https://www.eleconomista.com.mx/estados/AMLO-entrega-apoyos-a-Jalisco-y-Nayarit-20190512-0110.html https://www.eluniversal.com.mx/nacion/amlo-al-carajo-subcultura-del-agandalle https://www.elfinanciero.com.mx/nacional/gobierno-anuncia-530-mdp-para-el-mejoramiento-urbano-de-bahia-de-banderas The government of Andrés Manuel López Obrador confirmed its commitment to Puerto Vallarta during the President’s visit to the city. Visiting yesterday in the municipality, accompanied by Governor Enrique Alfaro, 600 million pesos were pledged for marginalized colonies of the tourist destination; they, Alfaro added, will have a reprogramming process, which will resolve the infrastructure lags in the most vulnerable areas of the municipality. “Because we do not want there to be so much contrast, that Vallarta, with a very important tourist port, but with colonies where marginalized people live, without water, without drainage, without pavement, we want there to be equality”, said Mexico’s President. Enrique Alfaro took advantage of the visit with López Obrador, and spoke to him about the importance of realizing investment for the construction of the Federation Bridge, to unite the municipality with Bahía de Banderas, in the neighboring state of Nayarit, under the argument that Vallarta does not have any exit to the north. He also asked for support for the construction of the Puerto Vallarta highway, which, said the governor, would allow the development of Vallarta to be carried from Costalegre. “We believe that if we achieve this, we will not only decongest the Center of Puerto Vallarta, we can achieve a growing Jalisco coast while taking care of the environment, and making public beaches public,” he added. The president said he was committed to working together with Jalisco, and said that his government will help make the Federation Bridge a reality, ” and the South Libramiento itself because in effect, we must improve the roads in Vallarta, which already has a lot of traffic in the center and there is no way to vent vehicular traffic. That is why we are going to support these infrastructure works,” he said. The president visited Puerto Vallarta to deliver symbolic resources of the Comprehensive Welfare Programs, in an event held at the maritime terminal of the coastal municipality, which brought together hundreds of people. López Obrador promised to return to the tourist destination in three months. The president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, will visit Puerto Vallarta this Sunday, May 12, to follow up on the delivery of social programs in the state. The delegate of Programs for the Development of the Government of Mexico in Jalisco, Carlos Lomelí, added that López Obrador will hold a meeting with the population in Puerto Vallarta at 4:00 pm at the headquarters of the Integral Port Administration (API). He specified that the maritime terminal is located on Boulevard Francisco Medina Ascencio, at kilometer 4.5, in the hotel zone, Vallarta Military Area number 48333. He pointed out that the primary purpose of the visit is to follow up on the Integral Development Programs.
