This year will begin the expansion to four lanes of the road from Las Varas to Punta de Mita, which will help cut the travel time from Guadalajara almost 45 minutes


While the conclusion of the short cut to Puerto Vallarta has been postponed by the Secretariat of Communications and Transportation (SCT) until the next decade, the government of Nayarit announced in February that it was preparing a bag for this year for the expansion to four lanes of the highway Las Varas to Punta de Mita, which would allow you to cut times to Puerto Vallarta for up to 40 minutes.

The governor of Nayarit, Antonio Echevarría García, in reporting this project, highlighted three priorities: the first is that the road to two lanes is already insufficient, that in case of accident the only exit and entrance to the Puerto Vallarta area is blocked and Riviera Nayarit, but also, that at the end of the road to Puerto Vallarta, scheduled for 2022, villages that depend on tourism such as Sayulita, Guayabitos, La Peñita de Jaltemba and even Punta de Mita would be segregated.

The president said that at the end of this route the transit will remain free and that currently negotiates with the ejidatarios of the area to expand to the sides according to the right of way.

The Nayarit authorities point out that it is almost impossible to achieve an extension to four lanes from Compostela, as there are ravines and mountains that prevent them from spreading to the sides.

ALTERNATE ROUTE TO THE SHORT cut

Although the Secretariat of Communications and Transportation indicated in February that the second section of the shortcut to Vallarta, from Compostela to Las Varas, would be completed this year, there have been several delays that suggest it won't be completed until 2020 or 2021.

The first estimates indicate that the road will have a cost of seven thousand 215 million pesos. Meanwhile, the third section of Las Varas to Puerto Vallarta would be completed until 2023, there were delays with the expropriation of the land.
