Jalisco, Mexico - The federal government has streamlined the certification of origin process for the export of avocados produced in the state of Jalisco after the Association of Avocado Exporters of that state (Apeajal) complained about delays of up to 5 days in the issuance of certificates and the consequent impact they had on the export of perishables.

According to the director of Apeajal, Ignacio Gomez Arregui, on June 3, the offices of the Secretariat of Economy stopped issuing the certificate of origin demanded by international markets, something it did up to that date. As a result, he said, in some cases, exporters had been unable to export their merchandise.

After meeting with the head of the Ministry of Economy, Graciela Marquez Colin, the export sector of Jalisco agreed to the streamlining of certificates of origin, strengthening exports to Japan, and conducting negotiations to export the avocado from Jalisco to the United States and China.
