Puerto Vallarta Recognizes its Outstanding Athletes

Last week, Mayor Arturo Pena Davalos led an awards ceremony to honor the Puerto Vallarta athletes who, representing the state of Jalisco, won a total of 37 medals (22 gold, 8 silver and 7 bronze) in the 2016 National Youth Olympics and the 2016 National Paralympic games.

Part of the 2015-2016 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour, the Puerto Vallarta Open, which was scheduled to take place from October 11 to 16, has been cancelled due to constraints encountered by the event organizers in Mexico. Puerto Vallarta last hosted an Open in October of 2015.

On Sunday, 150 athletes participate in the first Puerto Vallarta aquathlon, a sporting event that consisted of a continuous, three-stage race involving running, then swimming, followed by more running. The contest was divided into several categories, ranging from Children's to Veteran's.

The Eleventh Annual Hook the Cure powered by IOTEC will return to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico on November 3, 2016. The four-day catch-and-release offshore tournament, an official event of the Redbone Celebrity Series, will benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
