Two Tenors to Sing in Mexico Despite Pavarotti's Absence
Associated Press
Monterrey, Mexico – Placido Domingo and Jose Carreras will sing at a "Three Tenors" concert in this northern Mexican industrial city despite Luciano Pavarotti's absence, the pair said Thursday.
Domingo, Carreras and Pavarotti were scheduled to perform Saturday, kicking off promotion for the Forum of the Cultures, an international cultural festival to be hosted by Monterrey in 2007.
Pavarotti canceled after contracting laryngitis, his manager, Terri Robson said.
Pavarotti "talked to his voice specialist and he was told to rest his voice for at least 10 days," Robson said.
Domingo said Sunday would mark the first time in 15 years a "Three Tenors" concert would take place without one of the tenors.
"I'm a soldier who goes to the front lines and I knew we had to be here, we had to come," Domingo said.
Promoters had said the Saturday presentation would be the last "Three Tenors" concert, but Carreras said that wasn't true.
"We don't have a farewell concert planned," Carreras said. "On the other hand, we have plenty of offers from several cities around the world." |
