Mexico City - About 16,000 Mexican children suffer from sexual exploitation every year, while another 85,000 are involved in child pornography, online newspaper El Universal said.
Sexual tourism is practiced in 21 of the 32 Mexican states, while other victims come from Central America, South America, Asia and Europe.
Federal member of Parliament Joel Arellano, with the National Action Party, was shocked with such figures, and urged the government to draw effective public policies against the children sexual exploitation.
Arellano also asked Federal government to implement a propaganda campaign to make a clear diagnosis over human smuggling, in order to design effective public policies.
A text on Human Smuggling, and its basic aspects, by the International Migration Board, pointed out that human trafficking in Mexico is as profitable as arms and drugs, yielding 32 billion dollars a year.
According to the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), Juarez, Cancun, Tapachula, Acapulco and Guadalajara are the cities where sexual tourism is more common. |
