| President Felipe Calderón inaugurates the Mother and Child Hospital in Reynosa, Tamaulipas. | | Reynosa, Tamaulipas - As part of the Mother's Day celebrations, President Felipe Calderón inaugurated the Mother and Child Hospital in Reynosa, Tamaulipas that will provide services for over 350,000 people from this region in the north of the country.
 The President said that the goal is to reduce mother and child mortality and that nowadays 60 out of every 1,000 women die during childbirth while 17 out of every 1,000 children die at birth or during the first months of life.
 President Felipe Calderón also implemented the Health Pregnancy Program which will guarantee that all pregnant women will have access to timely, adequate medical assistance during the gestation stage and after childbirth, for life.
 He added that the Medical Insurance for a New Generation Program in Tamaulipas has already registered 37,000 beneficiaries, of which there are over 1.1 million in the rest of the country.
 A Healthy Pregnancy Program, explained the President, will guarantee that all future mothers will have proper medical supervision, in addition to providing them with vitamin complements and vaccinations, as well as preventing risks so that increasingly few women will have complications before, during and after birth.
 He recalled that his government is committed to ensuring that everyone, including children, youth, women and adults, live better, which is why it is crucial to guarantee medical assistance from the earliest stages of life.
 He declared that the new Mother and Child Hospital in Reynosa, Tamaulipas is on a par with those in Mexico City and Monterrey, as regards infrastructure and equipment.
 President Calderón, who was accompanied during the event by Governor of Tamaulipas Eugenio Hernández Flores, Mayor of Reynosa Oscar Luebbert Gutiérrez and Federal Government Health Secretary José Angel Córdova Villalobos, congratulated all the mothers in Mexico on their day tomorrow. |
