President Felipe Calderón, accompanied by his Legal and Extended Cabinet, declared that the best tribute one could pay to these distinguished government officials is to continue working to achieve a better country.
"The best way of honoring the memory of these outstanding Mexicans who lost their lives in this unfortunate event is to continue working together and with greater conviction than ever before to transform Mexico," declared President Calderón.
He also regretted the loss of life of innocent persons who happened to be at the site of these events and, on behalf of Federal Government, expressed his deepest condolences to the husbands, wives, children, parents and brothers and sisters of those who died, and wished for the speedy recovery of those injured.
The President thanked political actors, analysts, businessmen, civil society and foreign governments for their expressions of solidarity at these difficult moments, since they help boost Mexicans' morale.
Addressing the families of government officials who died in the plane crash, governors, the Head of Government, mayors, ambassadors, political party, trade union, business and social leaders, the President declared that Federal Government, in conjunction with the corresponding authorities, is undertaking the necessary investigations to determine the causes that led to the tragedy.
President Felipe Calderón said that Juan Camilo Mouriño Terrazo was one of his closest collaborators and friends and described him as a man who, beyond ideological and party differences, used politics as an instrument for undertaking the reforms Mexico needs and which millions of Mexicans are demanding.
He admitted that the death of Juan Camilo Mourilo is a significant loss for the Mexican state, since his discipline, character and patriotism were key factors in enabling Federal Government, in just two years, to place Mexico on the route to major transformations, aimed at constructing the well-being of Mexicans of today and tomorrow.
Mr. Mouriño's achievements as Interior Secretary include: a climate of negotiation, dialogue on an everyday basis, a respectful relationship towards various political forces, the creation of agreements that translated into major legislative reforms and which benefitted from his political sensitivity, intelligence and broad perspective.
The President declared that Mr. Mouriño had recovered the constructive, dignified meaning of politics. “Democrat that he was, Mr. Mouriño was convinced that dialogue and political plurality enhance and strengthen a country’s democracy and public life,” he stated.
In honoring the memory of the government officials employed by Interior Secretariat, President Calderón recalled Norma Angélica Díaz Aguiñiga, Director of Information, as a committed, effective functionary.
"She was one of my collaborators from the time of the electoral campaign as well as in the Presidency. She always informed the media professionally and accurately of the President's actions," he declared.
The President declared that Arcadio Echeverría Lanz, Events and Administration Coordinator of the Interior Secretary's Office was one of Juan Camilo Mouriño’s closest collaborators, adding that prior to that he had been a valuable collaborator of his in the office of the Presidency.
Of José Miguel Monterrubio Cubas, Director General of the Media of the Interior Secretariat, he said that he was a valuable member of the Mexican Foreign Service.
"Miguel was always an institutional man, well-liked by his colleagues and friends in the various offices where he offered his services, which he did with loyalty and efficiency, particularly in the delicate media-related tasks he was given in the Interior Secretariat, the Foreign Affairs Secretariat and the Presidency itself," he stated.
President Calderón also honored the memory of pilots Álvaro Sánchez y Jiménez and Martín de Jesús Olvia Pérez, as well as Flight Attendant Gisel Carrilllo who, he declared, always supported the Interior Secretary with professionalism.
He added that Captain Julio César Ramírez Dávalos, attached to the President’s General Staff and Head of the Interior Secretariat’s Bodyguards, in keeping with his position, always fulfilled his duty of bravery, ethics and loyalty, characteristic of members of the Mexican Armed Forces and General Staff.
He also thanked José Luis Santiago Vasconcelos, Head of the Technical Secretaryship for the implementation of the recent constitutional reforms of Security and Penal Justice, adding that for many years, he held key positions in the Attorney General's Office, where he secured the arrest of numerous criminals and worked hard to build a country of laws in which the rule of law and public safety would prevail.
Lastly, President Felipe Calderón declared that "Irrespective of our grief, we will continue constructing the different, better Mexico in which we believe and which we have dreamed" more quickly and with even greater strength. A Mexico in which justice, truth and freedom prevail; a safe, clean, prosperous Mexico." |
