Mexico City - The Health Secretariat’s Federal Commission for Protection against Health Risks (COFEPRIS) has issued an alert for this winter period, in view of the possibility that an environmental pre-contingency or contingency will be declared.
In order to protect the general population from health risks derived from pollution, it has issued the following recommendations:
 • The population, particularly children, adults and persons with respiratory illnesses, should avoid any open-air activities such as running, aerobic activity and cycling.
 • Persons with respiratory ailments should attend their local health center if they experience irritation in their eyes, nose and/or throat, watery eyes, headaches or earaches or difficulty breathing.
 • They should increase the consumption of Vitamin C and E-rich foods, such as guava, orange, mandarin and seasonal fruits.
 • They must notify COFEPRIS of any anomalies detected or any adverse reactions through its portal COFEPRIS.gob.mx
As Christmas, New Year's Day and Epiphany draw near, the Federal Commission for Protection from Health Risks recalls that the best surveillance is the kind we all carry out on an everyday basis.
