Mexico Will Support Red Cross at Difficult Times
Presidencia de la República go to original

| Calderón's government’s goal is to reduce the inequality gap between Mexicans. | | Mexico City - Being supportive means being not only responsible for one's own destiny but also for that of others, declared President Felipe Calderón, and invited Mexicans to take part in the 2009 Annual Collection of the Mexican Red Cross.
“I invite everyone to make solidarity the center of our actions and for us to work shoulder to shoulder thinking not only about our own destiny but about that of others and to build a strong, united nation, capable of overcoming any adversity and any challenge," he declared.
At the Hipódromo de las Américas, where the President delivered 232 new ambulances and 27 rescue vehicles and began the collection together with his wife, Margarita Zavala, he hoped that this year, 250 million pesos would be collected, to exceed the 240 million pesos of last year.
“Today, I would urge all Mexicans to express their solidarity and generosity so that with their contributions, and regardless of the difficulties of this international downturn, this year we will not only be able to achieve but actually exceed what we collected last year and together reach the goal of 250 million pesos in the Annual Mexican Red Cross Collection," he said.
Accompanied by Health Secretary José Ángel Córdova Villalobos, President Calderón highlighted the need to work together to reduce the gap dividing Mexicans. The way to do this is to provide equal opportunities for children, young people and adults. “And do it like the Red Cross, which does not distinguish between social condition, or religious or regional ideology and treats rich and poor equally. It serves without making any distinction and helps saves lives without being selective." |
