If Information Alert had Not Been Given, Damage to Other Countries would Have Been Enormous

 Mexico City - At Thursday’s press conference, Health Secretary José Ángel Córdova Villalobos said that if the information alert had not been given, the damage to other countries would have been enormous. He added that Mexico will request financial assistance for the country most heavily affected by the disease.
 The Health Secretary also said that he will meet with Finance Secretary Agustín Carstens to determine the economic impact of the epidemic.
 The Health Secretary said that to date there have been:
 • 2,656 confirmed cases • 64 confirmed deaths
 A total of 90% of the deaths began their symptoms before April 23. The Health Secretary added that Coahuila is the only state without any confirmed cases.
 The health caravans have attended 221,000 persons with 21,829 consultations while the rest have involved health prevention activities.
 Worldwide, 33 countries have been affected with 6,667 cases, with the United States leading the list.
 Daniel Karam, IMSS director, reported that influenza has created an extraordinary expense of 600 million pesos for the institute.
 ISSSTE director Miguel Ángel Yunes said that all the institution’s resources are being used to combat the epidemic.
 Both the IMSS and the ISSSTE directors stated that they will continue attending all the population that requires medical attention due to Influenza AH1N1, even if they are not affiliated. |
