The main genetic components of the swine flu virus. World health chiefs admitted Thursday they had yet to get a handle on swine flu and warned against any lowering of the guard after Mexico, the epicentre of the epidemic, ended a nationwide lockdown. (AFP)
Mexico City — Mexico's health secretary says tests have confirmed two more deaths from swine flu, bringing the toll to 44.

Jose Angel Cordova says the two new deaths were a woman from the northern state of San Luis Potosi and a man from central Tlaxcala state.

He says they died a while ago but tests only just confirmed they had swine flu. He did not give a specific date for their deaths.

Cordova says 1,160 people have been sickened, up 90 from the previous confirmed number of cases. He said at a news conference Thursday that the number of new cases continues to decrease.

High schools and universities are reopening Thursday as Mexico gradually eases a nationwide shutdown designed to keep the swine flu outbreak from spreading.
