“We applaud their efforts to respond with professionalism and extraordinary strength to the difficult crisis Mexico and its government experienced. We hail their commitment to the health and well-being of the Mexican people and the whole world.
After President Calderón led the inauguration of the new Abbott plant, which makes pharmaceutical and nutritional products, Mr. Liepmann also congratulated the Mexican president on the Universal Health Coverage provided by his government, scheduled to end in 2011.
“The Mexican government has proved its commitment to improving health care in Mexico by increasing the financing that will guarantee Universal Health Coverage during their entire period of growth, for all children born after December 1 2006," he declared.
For his part, Economy Secretary Gerardo Ruiz Mateos hailed the 100 million USD Abbott will assign to this new plant, adding that this type of investment reflects investors' confidence in Mexico and noting that Mexico continues to attract international capital flows.
“Although the whole world is facing enormous economic challenges, in Mexico, private enterprise, and world-class firms such as Abbott continue to trust our strength and continue investing in Mexico," he said.
He added that in President Calderón's government, "We have responded by working to protect Mexicans' employment and income and boost the competitiveness of our economy for the future."
Addressing the firm’s workers and executives, Secretary Ruiz Mateos said that Federal Government's aim is to boost the competitiveness of the national economy and to promote the competitiveness of the North American region as a whole.
“We are convinced that the Competitiveness Agenda proposed by President Calderón and President Obama between Mexico, the United States and Canada, will intensify their integration for the benefit of our peoples,” he said.
During his address, President Felipe Calderón said that in response to the challenges facing the country: the economic crisis, the health crisis and the fight against crime, Mexicans and Federal Government are dealing firmly with their problems.
“What Mexicans and government have done is not to hide problems or avoid them but face them in order to solve them," he said.
President Felipe Calderón mentioned Mexico's firm stance towards the A/H1N1 human flue virus, adding that his government took the right measures for treating people that contracted the virus and reducing the speed at which it spread.
“By acting in a timely, efficient fashion, Mexico provided proof of its commitment to the international community by providing transparent, truthful information, despite the economic costs of these actions," he declared. |
