 What is a vacation without trying the local foods? Traveling to many distant lands, I have had the opportunity to try great dishes and not-so-great dishes. Both add a lot to the adventure of the trip.
 Where ever you travel to, you will be sure to find new tastes and smells that you will remember for a long time.
 One of my favorite foods comes from the country of Brazil. In the south they put many different meats on a sword like spit and roast it over an open fire.
 They call it Churrasco and it is amazing. I especially like the pineapple that is roasted, then sliced at your table and served warm. It is usually served with Feijoada, which is black beans simmered with ham, sausage and spices.
 On the other hand I have had a few experiences with food that I would like to forget. Even though I love the ocean I am not a lover of fish.
 In Fiji I got tired of fish for every meal and on the room service menu it listed an American-style hamburger. Even though it was quite expensive I ordered it to get my fix of beef. When it came I took off the top bun and the patty was made of ground fish - I was not happy.
 Anywhere you go you can find foods that are a part of the local culture.
 In France, the breads and pastries were unbeatable.
 In Italy, you can sample real spaghetti and lasagna - although it is different from American-style foods. For example, we put a lot more sugar in our sauces and in our pastries.
 In Mexico City, I went to a fancy restaurant featuring tacos. When they were served it was just the tortillas and meat. They were good but you won't find all the cheese, lettuce and other toppings on tacos that we eat here.
 In Puerto Vallarta, you can't beat the guacamole made right at your table at Pipi's restaurant.
 Usually prices in resort restaurants are quite expensive. I like to go to all-inclusive resorts or on cruises where the food is included in your price. You will have multiple delicious selections to choose from and the desserts require that you sample at least two or three each meal.
 Around the world there are other foods to sample, including fish and chips in England; falafels in Israel - which are flatbread filled with lamb or other meat, cucumbers, garbanzo beans and more; in Hawaii the pork from a Luau is a treat although I really don't care too much for poi.

 Here in the U.S. you can get pizza in Chicago, fresh fish in San Francisco, crab and salmon in Alaska and Jambalaya in New Orleans. In the mid-west they have White Castle burgers and in the south there are Crystal burgers.
 You can even have fun with your food: in Seattle visit Public Market which is a wonderful market with seafood, flowers and fruit. At the fish stands you will hear the vendors yelling and throwing fish when it is sold, it is quite entertaining.
 Travel Tip: Where ever you go be brave and sample the local cuisine, you just might find your new favorite dish!
