Cinco de Mayo Las Vegas Centennial Celebration
email this pageprint this pageemail usPR Newswire

A happening unlike anything the city has seen before - for further information, call (702) 436-3115 or email TheEvent2005@cs.com
Las Vegas - When, in 1829, Mexican scout Rafael Rivera veered off the path to Los Angeles to look for water in the desert and discovered Las Vegas, he had no idea of the entertainment oasis that it would eventually grow into.

Today, celebrating its 100th birthday, that oasis in the desert is now paying respect to Rivera - as well as honoring all Mexicans as it drinks in all the growth that they have been a part of - with the greatest Mexican event in Las Vegas history.

The Cinco de Mayo Centennial Celebration Event at Thomas & Mack on Friday, May 6, sanctioned by the Las Vegas Centennial Committee, will be responsible for some other "firsts" - three of Mexico's most renowned entertainers will appear on the same stage for the first time ever and El Lucha Libre, a theatrical stunt show second in popularity in Mexico only to soccer, will be presented live in Las Vegas for the first time ever. The six-and-a-half hour event will also be videotaped for worldwide distribution.

The Cinco de Mayo Las Vegas Centennial Celebration Event will be held in two parts. First will be the entertainment portion of the program, which will feature superstar entertainers Juan Gabriel ("The King") who will personally be honored as he celebrates 34 years in show business; Veronica Castro ("The Queen") and the great Lupillo Rivera. Also appearing will be Priscila y Sus Balas de Plata and Maribel Guardia. In addition, there will be a Fiesta starring Mariachi Sol de Mexico with special appearances by El Cuervo, Florencia Tinocco and Tatiana Bolanos.

The second portion of the event will be the production of El Lucha Libre starring El Hijo del Santo and Blue Demon, Jr., Mexico's two biggest movie stars. El Lucha Libre is display of acrobatic performance art that uses wrestling as its theme and good versus evil as its concept. The theatrical stunt show is systematically choreographed and the performers are trained stuntmen and women who use high-flying acrobatics to keep audiences on the edge of their seats.

The Cinco de Mayo Las Vegas Centennial Celebration Event begins at 6:30 p.m. and will continue until 1 a.m. There will be a 15-minute intermission between the entertainment portion and El Lucha Libre. Tickets range from $45 to $120 plus tax and handling fees and can be obtained by calling Thomas & Mack at (702) 739-3267.

Escobedo & Associates is the promoter of the Cinco de Mayo Las Vegas Centennial Celebration Event. CME Enterprises is the managing producer of the entertainment and Jonathan "Iceman" Knudsen is the producer of El Lucha Libre. Entertainer Olga Breeskin, who hosts a popular Las Vegas-based radio show for the Latin market, is the event talent coordinator. The official transportation sponsor of the event is Celebrity Coaches.
