Mexico Unveils Zacatecas as a New Tourist Destination

Zacatecas, where visitors will be able to discover many of Mexico`s colonial treasures has been presented by Mexico`s tourism representatives within the framework of FITUR 2007. Oscar Montes, the Tourism Representative of Zacatecas, described the place as "a shining example of culture, history and tradition; a veritable treasure."

Thus, under the slogan "Zacatecas, Love at First Sight", this new destination will be presented as "one of the 180 most beautiful cities in the world". It is located in the Central-North region of the Mexican Republic, surrounded by the States of Jalisco, Aguascalientes, San Luis Potosi, Coahuila, Durango and Nayarit.

According to its tourism representative, Zacatecas offers much more than a simple visit; it constitute a veritable experience, encompassing art, culture, tradition and history. It also offers some "rapid and convenient" travel links to the most progressive cities in the country. Baroque meals, panoramic night-time tours, traditional "callejoneadas" or street festivals and an "extraordinary range of art treasures preserved at ten museums" combine with a strong sense of handcrafted creativity at this beautiful destination, which is equipped with all the necessary infrastructures, making it worthy of its title of Cultural Heritage of Mankind City, granted by UNESCO.

Furthermore, due to its choice as the next venue for the Twenty-First Annual Congress of the Federation of Travel Agency Associations, an event that is expected to bring together more than 500 Spanish agencies, the presentation of this Mexican venue at FITUR featured the presence of the Vice-President of the Spanish Travel Agencies Federation, Matilde Torres, who described the destination as "a region yet to be discovered in the Americas."

She also added that "we believe that our Spanish clients are looking around for new cities, and there is no doubt that Zacatecas is new."
