Lap of Luxury Discovered in Puerto Morelos, Mexico
Allison Neves - TravelLady.com
Nestled on the glorious Yucatan peninsula, midway between Cancun and Playa del Carmen, lays the sleepy seaside town of Puerto Morelos. Once just a small fishing village with little likelihood of pulling any tourism dollars away from the bustling tourist Mecca of Cancun, the town has become home to one of the most luxurious accommodations in the area, a stunning resort called Ceiba del Mar.
Upon my arrival, I was greeted with a pink champagne cocktail beneath a spectacular palapa that makes up the resort’s main lobby. From the center of the structure, hangs an amazing rot iron chandelier and beneath it you’ll find traditional furnishings as well as a virtual cornucopia of tropical plants and floral arrangements that set the tone for the resort paradise that awaits you.
I was lead to one of the property’s 45 standard rooms where I would make my home for the next five sun-filled days. The hotel is also home to 36 master suites and seven one bedroom penthouses with inviting terraces that host some of the most decadent ocean views that I’ve ever seen.
Since the resort is off the beaten track, Ceiba del Mar offers private airport transfers. You’ll need to make your reservation at least five days prior to your arrival.
Other guest services include, complimentary daily news paper and daily in-room coffee service and continental breakfast, free wireless internet access and access to the Fitness Center.
You need not go far to find activities. Ceiba del Mar is home to two outdoor swimming pools and outdoor Jacuzzi, and tennis courts. Bicycles, snorkeling equipment, and kayaks are all available for rent. The hotel can even arrange local scuba diving excursions.
You will find two restaurants and a bar on the property. But, the most enticing thing about the resort is its luxurious spa. I found the SPA’s staff and services to be top-notch. They could easily go head to head with just about any high-end luxury spa in San Francisco, Los Angeles or New York. The interior of this 8,600 square foot sanctuary is absolutely breathtaking, impeccably decorated and dotted with simple yet elegant Asian-inspired decor. I felt as if I stepped into my own personal nirvana as I sank down into one of the whirlpools and prepared for my date with Zen. I recommend connecting with your own bliss by indulging in the resort’s signature Mayan Balsamic massage which incorporates a special, organic blend of hand-chosen essential oils.
The SPA prides itself on incorporating local ingredients in their treatments as well as Mayan rituals and traditions into your spa experience. For a true taste of something Mayan, purify yourself by partaking in a Temazcal, an herbal steam bath that is believed to assist in cleansing your body and soul.
Room Rates start at $390 for a standard room during the high season. Be sure to ask about their special SPA packages, they have several to choose from. Check current rates at www.ceibadelmar.com. |
