Coastal Mexico: Over-The-Top Amenities

Pueblo Bonito Pacifica Holistic Retreat and Spa in Cabo San Lucas now offers king-sized canopy beds right on the sand, where guests can watch the sunset and order a romantic dinner for two. (Pueblo Bonito/Pacifuca Holistic Resort and Spa)
When a hotel touts its "amenities," that can mean anything from hair driers to bath butlers to an extensive pillow selection. Now you can add luxurious beds on the beach and tasting classes with estate-grown tequila to the list.

Pueblo Bonito Pacifica Holistic Retreat and Spa in Cabo San Lucas takes the notion of sleeping under the stars to a new extreme, planting king-sized canopy beds right on the sand for guests who want the fullest of ocean views without giving up the comforts of their room.

Watching the sunset from a cushy private bower—which comes with two specialty drinks, a snack and the use of an iPod - will add $85 to your tab.Christine Delsol - SF GateFor $190, the resort will add a candlelight dinner for two after darkness falls. No surprise for a luxury resort that focuses on wellness and relaxation.

In Puerto Vallarta, the CasaMagna is one of the few resorts that grows its own agave plants and produces a proprietary brand of tequila

In addition to employing a sommelier - who helps guests choose from 117 tequilas offered on the property - and providing an in-room video with a section on tequila culture and tradition, the resort offers weekly tasting classes for guests.

Conducted by the sommelier, classes cover the history of tequila, including its mythical origin with the Aztec goddess Mayahuel and her lover Quetzalcoatl, plus the latest tequila processing technologies. Agave also makes an appearance in the spa's signature treatment.
