Cruise Lines to Resume Calls in Mexico

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention lifted a warning advising against all nonessential travel to Mexico on Friday, and cruise lines were quick to embrace the move. Carnival and Royal Caribbean have announced details as to when their ships will resume calls on Mexican ports. In all, 37 cruise ships made itinerary changes because of H1N1 flu concerns. We've compiled a listing below with information on how cruise lines are planning to proceed in light of new developments.
Carnival Cruise Lines
Carnival ships will resume making calls in Mexico beginning May 28 when Carnival's Holiday calls in Cozumel. Most of the affected Carnival ships were given revised itineraries through mid-June due to H1N1 flu concerns; once these modified sailings are completed, these ships will return to their regularly scheduled itineraries that include calls to Mexico. Disney Cruise Line
Disney Magic is canceling its calls in Cozumel on May 6 and 20, and will replace them with calls in Nassau. The ship's next scheduled visit to Cozumel is slated for June 3, 2009. The cruise line has not yet announced any further changes.
Fred. Olsen Cruise Line
Fred. Olsen's Balmoral skipped an overnight call on Acapulco on May 6 and 7. No other calls in Mexico are slated; the ship is currently in the Caribbean and on its way back to Dover for the completion of its world cruise.
Holland America
All five of the Holland America ships that were rerouted due to swine flu -- Ryndam, Statendam, Westerdam, Zuiderdam and Veendam -- have since begun sailing Alaska itineraries for the summer.
Norwegian Cruise Line
NorwegianCruise Line's scheduled itineraries do not include any more Mexico calls until the end of September 2009.
Princess
Six Princess ships were scheduled for calls in Mexican ports through May, as they repositioned to Alaska for the summer season. Sapphire Princess, Star Princess, Island Princess and Pacific Princess have already begun Alaska itineraries. Coral Princess' first Alaska cruise of the season begins Monday, and Sea Princess' Alaska season will officially begin on May 24.
Royal Caribbean/Celebrity
Royal Caribbean ships that were redirected due to the H1N1 flu concerns in Mexico, Freedom of the Seas, Liberty of the Seas and Enchantment of the Seas, will resume port calls in Cozumel, Mexico, with sailings that depart on or after May 24, 2009. However, Mariner of the Seas will continue to sail a modified Pacific Northwest itinerary through the scheduled June 14 cruise. Two other RCI ships that had modified itineraries because of the illness, Serenade of the Seas and Radiance of the Seas, recently began sailings in Alaska.
Celebrity Infinity does not have any further calls in Mexico, as the ship started its Alaska sailings last Thursday. |
