President inaugurates Hotel Crowne Plaza Mazatlán, which entailed an investment of 45 million dollars and will create 500 direct jobs.

Mazatlán, Sinaloa - During the inauguration of the Hotel Crowne Plaza Mazatlán, President Calderón was accompanied by state governor, Jesús Aguilar Padilla and Mayor of Mazatlán, Abel López Sánchez, with whom he announced that the sector will receive an additional investment of 1.2 billion pesos in promotion through the Vive México movement, which will combine efforts by Federal Government, the media, private enterprise and personalities in the cultural and sports world to promote Mexico's tourist attractions.

“Vive México will attempt to make our country the first travel option and destination for domestic tourists, which is very important, and of course for foreigners. Now that the summer season is approaching, it will support millions of people since tourism is the main source of income for hundreds of thousands of residents of Mazatlán.

President Felipe Calderón stressed that as tourism is promoted, economic activity and investment will recover in the medium term. In this respect, he congratulated Mexican investors who choose to invest in Mexico. He said that the amount of money invested in this tourist complex exceeds $45 million USD and will create 500 direct jobs for the benefit of families in the region.

“Once again, I would like to congratulate the investors. This is a clear sign that the national tourist industry is functioning, and that there are Mexican businessmen who are betting heavily on our country. This is good for Mexico as well as being a sound business decision."

He stressed the importance of advertising all the tourist attractions Mexico offers worldwide and also among Mexicans, who are one of the country’s main assets.

“What we have to do now is to unite to make up for lost time, which I am sure will not be difficult. We have the most important thing, not only the most beautiful sun and beach locations, which is exactly where I am now, but something more important than sun and beaches, namely, the people. And Mexico's population is a great asset, which we must take advantage of."

The President referred to the population's enormous will to reactivate the sector and overcome the effects of economic recession and the Influenza A/H1N1 that recently affected the country. He informed his audience of the President of Taiwan's congratulations of the people of Mexico on the way this issue was handled through the implementation of heath measures and social isolation that prevented the spread of the virus and showed the world the strength of Mexican society and institutions.
