Mexico's Jobless Rate Steady at 5.7%

Mexico's unemployment rate was 5.7% in October, unchanged from the September level, the statistical office INEGI said late this week. Economists had expected the jobless rate to fall to 5.37%.
However, the rate was smaller than the 5.94% recorded a year ago. The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate rose to 5.46% in October from 5.32% in September.
The unadjusted jobless rate for men was 5.98%, up from 5.7% in the previous month, while the jobless rate for women fell to 5.24% from 5.69% in the previous month, the agency said.
The underemployment rate was 8.5% during the month compared to 8.3% in the previous month. During October last year, the rate was 8.8%.
