Havana - Mexican female golfer Lorena Ochoa got the votes of two Mexican papers Tuesday and consolidated her leadership at the head of the Prensa Latina sports poll to choose the best athletes of Latin America and the Caribbean in 2007.

With the decision of La Tribuna and El Popular, Lorena Ochoa reached 32 votes and is seen as the winner of the poll for the award for Best Female Athlete of the Year, which will close Thursday.

Ochoa is ahead of Cuban triple jumper Yargelis Savigne by 13 votes, while Cuban female judoka Driulis Gonzalez is in third place, still far behind.

Cuban newspaper Juventud Rebelde, weekly Trabajadores and station Radio Taino favoured Savigne, Pan American and World Champion.

With these votes, Savigne, 23, reached 19 votes and comes in the second place in the poll, after Ochoa.

Brazilian pro soccer midfielder Kaka got the votes of two newspapers in Toluca, Mexico and consolidated as leader in the male classification for the Best Male Athlete in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Kaka, 25, led Italian pro soccer team AC Milan to win the Champions League and the World Clubs Championship, getting the award for Best Player in both competitions, and added the obtaining of the 2007 Golden Ball by French magazine France Football.

Kaka got the vote of Juventud Rebelde, while Cuban press media Trabajadores and Radio Taino chose Ecuadorian march runner Jefferson Perez, who is in the second place with 17 votes, and Chilean tennis player Fernando Gonzalez and Brazilian swimmer Thiago Pereira share the third place.

The Brazilian male volleyball team is at the head of the poll for Beat Team of the Year, followed by Argentinean pro soccer team Boca Juniors, winner of the Liberators Cup this year, but which lost the World Clubs Championship title against AC Milan.
