La Cruz to Host Open Water Swimming Competition

Marina Riviera Nayarit in La Cruz de Huanacaxtle will host Nado Seguro open water swim competitions of up to 5K during the 8th Annual Aguas Abiertas Riviera Nayarit, scheduled to take place on May 21, 2018.

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - On April 21, 2018, the beach adjacent to the Marina Riviera Nayarit in La Cruz de Huanacaxtle will host the Riviera Nayarit Nado Seguro 3-5K Open Water Tournament for the 8th year in a row. Part of the Global Swim Series, this year's competition will welcome 800 swimmers from across the country, who will test their strength at swimming distances of 3 and 5 kilometers.

Swimmers ages 7 to 70 will compete in different categories that range from professional and masters to recreational and physically challenged swimmers. The course will be set up in the waters of Banderas Bay, with kids ages 10 and under competing on a special, triangular, 500 meter circuit and all other categories swimming a single 1.25k loop, or 3 or 4 loops for the longer distances.

These circuits will be visible from the beach and the final stretch will allow spectators to see winners from each category cross the finish line.

The first group of swimmers will enter the water at 7:50 am followed by each consecutive group until all the categories are completed around noon. After the races, there will be an Awards Ceremony at 1:00 pm, when the first place winners in all categories will receive medals and trophies.

The public is encouraged to come out and watch the April 21st competitions from the beach next to Marina Riviera Nayarit at La Cruz de Huanacaxtle, which has hosted the Aguas Abiertas Riviera Nayarit Nado Seguro for the last 7 years.
