December 7, 2011

Mexico City, Mexico - Mexico's full Senate approved a new Federal Environmental Liability Act that will force those who generate pollution and environmental damage to restore and/or compensate for the environmental service affected.

The Act states that "the repair of damage to the environment will consist of returning to its basic state the habitat or ecosystem's natural resource and elements, their chemical, physical or biological conditions and the relations of interaction that occur between these, as well as the environmental services they provide, through the restoration, restoration, treatment, recovery or remediation."

From the podium, Agundis Francisco, Arturo Escobar, William and Margaret Tamborrel Villaescusa, stressed the importance of this new law from the perspective of preventing those responsible for causing environmental damage from going unpunished.
