Vallarta's Free Spay & Neuter Clinic Needs Your Support

August 26, 2019

Since 2016, the monthly Spay & Neuter Clinic has provided over 3,000 free pet sterilizations, but additional clinics are needed to satisfy increasing demand. If you'd like to help, please Click HERE and make a donation TODAY!

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - The Cuale Spay and Neuter Clinic has provided over 3,000 sterilizations since the beginning of 2016. This is almost an unbelievable total! And yet, animals keep coming to the clinics in large numbers.

As a result of Vallarta's perfect year-round weather, the cats who survive breed up to four times a year, and dogs three times, so our area is continuously filled with more and more animals. Seeing this situation led local SPCA board member Luz Maria Wong to start a free spay and neuter clinic on the island for both cats and dogs.

Over the years, the numbers of surgeries performed have continued to grow from 665 in 2016 to 880 in 2017, and 1,062 animals in 2018. This year, as of the August clinic, we've provided 759 surgeries. The Cuale Clinic has become well known in the Vallarta area as a high quality, high volume clinic. The Facebook page is extremely popular and often there are over 400 Facebook shares just a week before the clinic.

Following several discussions, in October of 2018, we decided to see if there was a need for more clinics. At our regular clinic on the first of October, we provided 83 sterilizations, two weeks later it was 87 and two weeks later at our regular November clinic we sterilized 95. That's 265 animals within a month. Another month later, the first of December, we had 101 animals.

The need is obviously there, yet we've often had to turn some people away because we don't have the resources to do more surgeries in a single day. We are currently asking for donations to provide funds for another two clinics this October.

The Cuale Clinic is independent and not a part of any charitable organization. It receives no government funding, grant funding, nor any other funding. It relies solely on donations given by people who see that these clinics are making a huge difference to our community.

Our professional veterinarians charge for their services, and we have other expenses for supplies, so we are continually looking for donations. All recovery and other services, including the Facebook page, are provided by our dedicated volunteers but vet fees and medical costs continue to increase.

To satisfy the increasing demand, we've added a fourth veterinarian, but we need to purchase additional medicines and possibly add additional clinics. Donations are the only way we can continue to provide and grow the clinic to meet the area's needs so we have set up a GoFundMe page. Donations are secure and 100% will go to fund future clinics.

You can view the Cuale Clinic Facebook page to learn more about the clinic. This is a long-term project to reduce the number of unwanted animals in Puerto Vallarta, and we need your help. Please click HERE to make a donation TODAY!
