The government of Mexico City has announced the inaugural International Tourism Fair of the Americas (”FITA”) 2010. The event, which will draw destinations and travel and tourism organizations from around the world, will take place in Mexico City from September 23-26, 2010.

Set in Mexico’s bustling capital, FITA 2010 is expected to attract more than 200 national and international exhibitors from more than 70 countries. FITA 2010 will bring together major industry players such as wholesalers, tour operators, transportation companies, hotels, event promoters, official tourism organizations, travel agencies, conventions representatives, and the media.

Commenting on the announcement, Mayor Marcelo Ebrard emphasized that Mexico City is the ideal location to host the International Tourism Fair of the Americas, which is well positioned to become one of the world’s most important tourism events. Mayor Ebrard also commented that with the launch of FITA 2010, Mexico City is renewing its commitment to the tourism sector, which is critical to the city and the country’s prosperity.

“FITA 2010 will showcase the amazing destinations of the world in a cosmopolitan and culturally-rich setting,” said Alejandro Rojas, tourism secretary of Mexico City. “There is no better place to host a tourism event than Mexico City, with its extraordinary mosaic of lights, colors, tastes, smells, sensations, and emotions. FITA 2010 will demonstrate that Mexico City is an ideal gathering place for a world-class tourism event next year and for years to come.”

FITA 2010 will coincide with the bicentennial celebration of Mexico’s Independence and the centennial celebration of the Mexican Revolution.
