The Tamai Pool Complex at Punta Mita’s Four Seasons Resort has 10 private cabanas for guests.
A year after acquainting you with Riviera Nayarit, one of Mexico’s top luxury resort destinations, Travel Agent has uncovered the region’s hottest property, Punta Mita.

Stretching over 1,500 acres along nearly 10 miles of Pacific beachfront, the region has been designed by owner and developer DINE, and is in demand with travelers seeking second and third homes, apart from regular tourists, with draws like two luxury hotels, two Jack Nicklaus Signature golf courses, wildlife, dining and shopping. But what we like about Punta Mita is its selection of luxury communities, which provides guests with the opportunity to rent homes.

Home Away From Home

Your clients looking for a more private vacation experience might try looking at Punta Mita’s rental program, which includes a selection of villas, luxury condos and townhomes as well as fully staffed beachfront estate homes for five-star travelers. Punta Mita currently has three communities available, and a fourth is on its way.

Ayia Punta Mita is a beach and golf resort community with 27 two-bedroom residences. Each home has two-and-a-half baths, gourmet kitchens, living space and a terrace. Ask for units with hot tubs on the terrace.

Four Seasons Punta Mita Private Villas are distinguished by their ample living space, both indoors and outdoors. Each of these four- or five-bedroom villas ranges from approximately 6,475 square feet to 7,996 square feet. We like the private infinity-edged plunge pool at each villa, as well as the gourmet kitchen. Guests also have access to the neighboring Four Seasons Resort’s services and amenities.

Golf enthusiasts should check out the Las Palmas Club & Villas, the closest community in Punta Mita to the two 18-hole Jack Nicklaus Signature golf courses: Punta Mita Pacifico and Punta Mita Bahia. Residences have plunge pools, outdoor showers and views of the golf course. Travelers for 2010 should look out for the Las Palmas Club, a fitness facility with a free-form pool, gym, restaurant, small meeting facility, children’s clubhouse and a sitting room with a TV viewing area and fireplace.

The yet-to-be-completed El Encanto will comprise 54 two-story and split-level oceanfront and golf residences ranging from 2,650 square feet to 7,200 square feet. Each home will have an infinity-edge plunge pool and gourmet kitchen. Travel Agent was not given any information on when the project will be completed, but sources said its completion will depend on sales.

All rental guests have access to housekeeping services up to eight hours per day; use of the Residents’ Beach Club for Punta Mita Residential Concierge services; preferential tee times; and a special greens fee rate of $210 (available only to renters whose homeowners have an active club membership). Rental rates for villas and haciendas range from $750 to $8,000 per night in low season (May-November) and from $1,500 to $10,000 in high season (December-April). Luxury condo rates range from $350 to $1,000 per night in low season and $550 to $1,400 per night in high season. Holiday rates for villas and estates fall in the $1,500-$15,000 per night range. Condos during holidays sell for $800 to $1,900 per night.Agents should contact the Punta Mita Rental Program at 888-647-0979 or visit the Punta Mita website.

Punta Mita Resorts

For a resort vacation, clients can choose from two luxury properties. Four Seasons Resort, Punta Mita, Mexico continues to be a preferred hotel in the Riviera Nayarit region. Most of its 173 guest rooms and 32 Mexican-style casita suites have views of the Pacific Ocean and the hills that surround the resort. A highlight is the Apuane Spa. Ask about the outdoor services, including massages in three private outdoor locations. Guests also have the option of receiving a full range of spa treatments in the privacy of their rooms for an extra fee.

Another feature we like is the Tamai Pool Complex. This has two main pools, two plunge pools, a whirlpool, full bar and 10 private cabanas—each with 42-inch plasma TVs, DVD players and high-speed wireless Internet access. Agents should call 011-52-329-291-6019 for reservations.

Golfers will appreciate a stay at the newly opened The St. Regis Punta Mita Resort because of its location on the Punta Mita Bahia Jack Nicklaus Signature golf course. The resort has several buildings spanning 22 acres and includes 89 guest rooms, 32 suites and one Presidential Suite. The St. Regis has 7,000 square feet of meeting space. Each guest room has a terrace or balcony, outdoor shower and private outdoor plunge pool and/or Jacuzzi. The 10,000-square-foot Remede Spa has seven treatment cabins, two couple treatment cabins and a spa suite. And after a day on the green, relaxing at the spa or lounging by a private pool, a hungry guest has three restaurants and a lobby bar to choose from. Agents should call 011-52-329-291-5800 or visit the resort’s website.

Looking Ahead

Spa lovers heading to Punta Mita should check out the Mii Amo Spa, slated to open in 2010. This property owned by Enchantment Group will have 30 guest rooms and 25 residential condos. This will be Punta Mita’s first destination spa.

On the Town

Punta Mita provides a variety of activities for guests who wish to venture off the resort or rental properties. Visitors have the option to either explore the local wildlife and outdoor activities or enjoy Puerto Vallarta’s shopping, dining and nightlife on its famous boardwalk, known as the Malecon. Puerto Vallarta is a 45-minute drive from Punta Mita.

The Marietta Islands Marine Reserve is just a 20-minute boat ride from Punta Mita. Here, guests can get up close and personal with native birds, turtles, fish and dolphins. While visitors are not allowed on shore, there is plenty to be seen from onboard or by snorkeling around the reserve.

Adventure seekers will enjoy Punta Mita’s other outdoor options, including kayaking, swimming with dolphins, ziplining in the Sierra Madres, hiking and horseback riding.

For more information on the Punta Mita area, agents can get in touch with the Punta Mita Properties Real Estate Center (888-647-0979, info(at)puntamitaproperties.net).
