President Felipe Calderón (Presidencia de la República)
President Felipe Calderón declared, “What the Mexico Initiative has shown is that there are thousands if not millions of Mexicans striving to do something for others and to do something positive for our beloved Mexico." He added that, "Supporting civic initiatives is a good cause."

He congratulated the project's promoters and the finalists, adding:

"We obviously have very serious problems. But it is also true that the Mexico Initiative has renewed hopes for a better future. It is true that bad things happen and that there are bad people but it is also true that there are far more people that serve others. Those that submitted these projects and urge citizens to serve others are Mexican."

Accompanied by his wife Margarita Zavala, he said that, "The new Mexico we want is a Mexico where we can live in peace, work and prosper. A Mexico resulting from the actions of good, hard-working people like yourselves, with good hearts and generous natures."

This, he added, “Is the Mexico we want, a Mexico where Mexicans compete to see who can help others more, who has the project that will be of the greatest use to our country and who can serve the poor most."

"I am convinced that supporting civic initiatives is a good cause. I am delighted that the media are making this great effort,” explained President Felipe Calderón.

He thanked and congratulated the finalists: Mariana, Raúl Héctor and Miguel, and all those that participated. “And I thank you for the testimonial you have given us, for everything you do in every project, for the lives you save, for the communities you have rebuilt, on behalf of women and other vulnerable persons that suffer and whom you help," he said.

And he added: “But above all, thank you. Thank you for renewing hope and remembering that Mexico is much more than its problems, that Mexico is great because of the greatness of people such as yourselves and for reminding us that together, all those who love Mexico will progress, together with our country."

He said that Mexico needs to overcome violence and pessimism, and that it needs love. It also needs to draw closer to the teenagers and youth in the country's poorest neighborhoods to give them hope and a meaningful life and existence.

He declared that, “We are going to support the work of the 50 projects announced today. I am excited to see these projects. And to start with, each of these last 25 participants will be given 750,000 pesos while the winner of the Mexico Initiative will receive 10 million pesos. Federal Government will match every peso the Mexico Initiative gives the winners with another peso.

He recalled that Federal Government, through the Institute for Social Development and the Institute for Women and the Commission for Indigenous Peoples and the SMB projects and the Fund for Social Firms support 24,000 civic projects with direct supports in addition to supporting through tax deductions given to many noble organizations, such as those in which the Mexico Initiative participates.
