June 7, 2011

The Ana Maria crew hooked the only Marlin of the tournament, which was also the largest Marlin ever caught in the tournament's history.

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - Lucky, lucky numbers. A new Marlin record was set during the 51st San Blas International Fishing Tournament. Exactly 51 boats registered for the Riviera Nayarit competition, which came to an end on Sunday, June 5th with a joyful celebration.

On Saturday, the Ana Maria crew caught a 235.800 kg (519.85 lb) marlin, breaking the existing San Blas Fishing Tournament record. The Ana Maria not only hooked the only marlin of the tournament, but it was also the largest Marlin ever caught in the tournament's 51 year history.

But these guys didn't stop the fight. On Sunday, they made another big catch - a 15.100 kg (33.290 lb) Mahi Mahi (just in the weight limit, but good enough to take second place in this category.) The crew of Godzilla won the Dorado category with a 15.900 kg (35.054 lb) Mahi Mahi, also caught on Sunday.

History almost repeated itself for the Sailfish category. Last year, Oscar's crew took first place at the last minute, leaving Jupiter's crew in second place. This year, it was Jupiter who took first place with a 31.700 kg (69.887 lb) Sailfish caught on Sunday, which left the 31.200 Sailfish caught by Oscar's on Thursday in second place.

Riviera Nayarit is one of the most enticing settings for sport fishing lovers. Wahoo, sailfish, mahi mahi, tuna, three different species of marlin, sierra and snapper guarantee a great fishing experience year-round.

Riviera Nayarit's Conventions and Visitors Bureau (CVB) supports top-notch sports competitions like this one, not only to attract visitors during the event, but also because specialized media coverage is important to the overall promotion of the destination.

TOTAL COVERAGE

Radio Mil, Record Occidente, Caras Sports and touristic magazine Ruta Sin Límite are some of the media that covered the San Blas Tournament. In addition to reporting about the sport, Riviera Nayarit's infrastructure and touristic services were highlighted, which added to the destination's promotional efforts just in time for the Summer Vacation season.
