2011 Pan American Sailing Events in Puerto Vallarta

The 2011 Pan-American sailing events will take place in Puerto Vallarta October 17-23. The venue will be the Vallarta Yacht Club, located in Nuevo Vallarta's Paradise Village Marina.

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - During the month of October, the Pan American Games will begin in Guadalajara, Jalisco. For certain sports, such as sailing, Puerto Vallarta will be a sub-venue, as Banderas Bay offers the best conditions for sailing competitions.

The Pan-American sailing events will take place in Vallarta between October 17 and 23. The venue will be the Vallarta Yacht Club, located in Nuevo Vallarta's Paradise Village. 140 athletes (24 men, 19 women and 97 mixed) will compete for three Pan American medals in the following Pan American Sailing categories:

• Windsurfing (windsurfing) women's and men's
• Laser Radial (women's individual)
• Laser Standard (men's singles)
• J-24 (keelboat, with five crew)
• Hobie cat (catamaran double)
• Snipe (double)
• Lightning (keelboat with three crew)
• Sunfish (individual light open, the crew is male or female)

Some of the authorities to be present during the competitions are the President of the International Sailing Federation, Göran Petersson; the President of the Pan American Sailing Federation, Carlos Alberto de Mare; the President of the Federacion Mexicana de Vela, Ralph Nelles Knothe; the Technical Sailing Delegate, Nelson Ilha and the Competition Director, Beatriz Ruiz González Luna.

Remember that our country placed fifth in Rio de Janeiro with 18 gold medals, 24 silver and 31 bronze for a total of 73 medals.

Currently, Vallarta is the second most important economic area in the state of Jalisco and the third largest port in Mexico. It is estimated that about five million people visit Puerto Vallarta each year.
