Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - If you can’t wait to see the Olympics next summer there is good news. The Pan American Games start October 16 in Puerto Vallarta and Guadalajara, Mexico. And there is more good news. There are some great last minute trips on sale starting at just a few hundred dollars.

The satellite program in Puerto Vallarta features seaside sports - beach volleyball, open water swimming, a triathlon, and sailing. And, of course, Puerto Vallarta also features world class beach resorts. Travelocity has last minute packages starting at $650 for five days and four nights. These include non-stop flights from Los Angeles.

The main events in Guadalajara will have dramatically orchestrated opening and closing ceremonies, just like the Olympic Games. And you can also see three sports that are not part of the Summer Olympics - Basque Pelota (a form of racquetball,) bowling and roller skating.

The equestrian events will be held at the luxurious Guadalajara Country Club, which is not normally open to the public. Seeing other popular events like gymnastics and diving will have the additional advantage that the stadiums are more compact than in London and most visitors will get a much closer view of the athletes and their techniques.

Expedia has many last minute packages to Guadalajara with comfortable three star hotels to choose from. The price is just above $550 for five days and four nights, including non-stop flights from Los Angeles. You can also choose one week in budget accommodations for under $600 USD.
