The upcoming appearance at the 2012 Summer Olympics will be Mexico’s 10th in the realm of men’s soccer, and marks a great achievement in the sphere of Mexican sports.

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - The Mexican men's soccer team is booking flights to attend the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London, England this July after winning semifinal showdowns at the Confederation of North, Central American, and Caribbean Football Association’s qualifying tournament in Kansas City, Kansas this past weekend.

This upcoming appearance at the 2012 Summer Olympics, will be Mexico’s 10th in the realm of men’s soccer and marks a great achievement in the sphere of Mexican sports.

Mexico has enjoyed tremendous success at the youth and senior levels over the past year, so it came as little surprise when they confirmed their place at the upcoming Olympics. Their qualification for the games has already been the cause of much celebration in the country since their last appearance was in Athens, Greece in 2004.

The Mexicans missed out on the 2008 Beijing Games and their coach, former Real Madrid striker Hugo Sanchez, lost his job as a result of their failure to qualify.

Joining the Mexicans in London will be Honduras who, after reaching the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa, have shown little sign of relinquishing their new-found status among the CONCACAF elite.

The majority of the field is now set for the 2012 Olympic Games in men's soccer.

Mexico and Honduras are joined in the tournament by Great Britain, Belarus, South Korea, Japan, United Arab Emirates, Gabon, Morocco, Egypt, Brazil, Uruguay, New Zealand, Spain, and Switzerland. Senegal plays Oman for the final spot in Coventry, England on April 23.

The 2012 Summer Olympic tournament kicks off on July 25, two days before the official opening of the London Games.
