July 16, 2012

Mexican athletes who win a gold medal in the 2012 Olympic Games will receive a $37,000 prize, while the award for a silver medal will be $18,000, and a bronze medal winner will receive $10,000.

Mexico City, Mexico - Mexico will go to the London 2012 Olympic Games with a 102-athlete delegation. They will be accompanied by 109 others including officials, coaches, and doctors, Mexican sports authorities said.

Jaime Cadaval, chief of the Mexican Olympic delegation, said that all of the athletes will be registered on July 15th before the London Organizing Committee of the Olympic Games, and that the first Mexican group will travel to London on July 20th.

"It will be a 50 people group that will travel to London on a commercial flight this week, and afterwards there will be scaled trips," Cadaval told the press.

Mexico's National Commission of Physical Culture and Sports (Conade) said that the Mexican athletes who win a gold medal in the 2012 Olympic Games will receive a $37,000 prize, while the award for a silver medal will be $18,000, and a bronze medal winner will receive $10,000.

Mexican sports' authorities have rejected requests to give an opinion on the approximate number of medals they expect, but they have publicly said that they hope at least 20 athletes can finish among the best in their respective sports.

At the 2008 Olympics Games in Beijing, Mexico won two gold medals in taekwondo and a bronze in synchronized diving.
