First Int'l Fishing Tournament in La Cruz de Huanacaxtle

La Cruz de Huanacaxtle, Mexico - Boasting an abundance of big game fish - wahoo, sailfish, dorado, tuna, and three different species of marlin, as well as swordfish and snapper - Riviera Nayarit is considered one of the best destinations in the world for sport fishing enthusiasts.

"In Nayarit Sport Fishing is a pride that unites us" is the motto of the Tepic Sportfishing Club who, for the past 52 years, has hosted the International Fishing Tournament in San Blas. The 52nd edition, which took place May 31-June 3, 2012, was a resounding success with first place prizes awarded for a 17.900 kg Dorado, a 95.600 kg Marlin, and a 37.900 kg Sailfish.

Club de Pesca Tepic (Tepic’s Sport Fishing Club) promises to continue doing honor to the title of the "Best Fishing Tournament on the Mexican Pacific" at the 1st International Fishing Tournament in La Cruz de Huanacaxtle, which is scheduled to take place at Marina Riviera Nayarit from October 10-14, 2012.

Two years ago, Club de Pesca Tepic made history during the 50th San Blas International Fishing Tournament by offering millions of pesos in prizes, and for the upcoming La Cruz tournament they are raising the bar once again, offering more than 2.5 million pesos in prizes including 8 Toyota vehicles and fishing equipment.

The enrollment fee for this tournament is $19,000 pesos per boat, with teams of up to 4 anglers. Catches per boat are limited to a maximum of three sailfish (minimum weight 10 kg), one Marlin (minimum weight 85 kg), and three Tuna (minimum weight 50 kg) per day.

The official "Welcome Day" is scheduled for Wednesday, October 10 from 5-11:30 pm, featuring participant registration and enrollment, a welcome cocktail, the Captain's Meeting, and a special Bohemian Night - complete with live music. The official opening of the tournament will be announced at 8:30 pm in a presentation made by the Governor of the State of Nayarit and other civil authorities.

The first day of fishing begins on Thursday, October 11th with the starting shot fired at 6 am, followed by the anglers' departures.

Registration for the 1st International Fishing Tournament in La Cruz de Huanacaxtle is now open and can be made on the Club de Pesca Tepic website, by calling the Tepic Fishing Club's office at (311) 160-0675, or at the Captain's Meeting at Marina Riviera Nayarit on October 10, 2012.
