London, England - Mexico’s Paola Espinosa and Alejandra Orozco on Tuesday won the silver medal in women’s 10-meter synchronized diving by racking up 343.32 points.

Chen Ruolin and Wang Hao of China took home the gold medal.

As occurred on Monday in the men’s 10-meter synchronized diving, where the silver was won by Mexicans Ivan Garcia and German Sanchez, the women’s pair did relatively poorly on their initial two obligatory dives and were in next-to-last place at the end of the second round.

Paola, whose 26th birthday is on Tuesday, and Alejandra, a 15-year-old making her Olympic debut, vaulted into second place in the rankings in the third round, however, by executing a dive rated 3.2 in terms of difficulty.

Chen and Wang perfectly presented a rigorous program and were far out in front right from the start. The real contest came in the quest for the silver between Mexico, Canada and Germany.

With this award, Mexico has now won 57 medals in its history of Olympic competition - 12 gold, 20 silver and 25 bronze, and of those one gold, six silver and five bronze were in diving, equalling boxing as the sport in which the country has won the most medals.

On her birthday, Paola became the first Mexican woman to have won two Olympic medals.
