Puerto Vallarta Joins 2013 World Naked Bike Ride Event

June 5, 2013

On June 8th, Puerto Vallarta will join cities and countries around the world in the 10th Annual World Naked Bike Ride. The dress code motto is "bare as you dare," and creative expression is encouraged.

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - On Saturday, June 8th, Puerto Vallarta will join various cities and countries around the world in the 10th Annual World Naked Bike Ride (WNBR), an international movement that highlights the vulnerability of cyclists everywhere and decries society’s dependence on pollution-based transportation.

Pedalea Vallarta is organizing World Playero Bike Ride a name that alludes to an event that has taken place every year since 2003 in Vancouver, Canada. Everyone is invited to come out and ride together en masse on human-powered transport (bicycles, skateboards and inline skates), to "deliver a vision of a cleaner, safer, body-positive world."

The dress code motto is "bare as you dare," and creative expression is encouraged to generate a fun and immersive atmosphere during the ride. Body art, such as body painting, are common forms of creative expression, as well as costumes, decorated bikes, and portable sound reinforcement systems, such as boomboxes, musical instruments, or other types of noisemakers.

The fun starts at 3 pm at Oasis Del Holi Restaurant (48290 Francisco Medina Ascencio, between the Grand Venetian hotel and the Peninsula tower,) where you can explore your creativity through body paint and beach fun. At 6 pm, the World Naked Bike Ride begins, and continues all the way to Los Arcos del Malecón before heading back to the restaurant. There, all kinds of activities, like a wet T-Shirt contest, beach soccer and volleyball, live music, vendor stands and much more will be waiting for riders and spectators to enjoy.

The WNBR is presented as a demonstration by citizens and civilians on wheels, where it is suggested to go as bare as you want. Participants are organized to be seen by motorists, to raise awareness, and to promote the use of bicycles not just for recreation but as a sustainable means of transportation that is contaminant-free, safe, and beneficial to the body and health.

Don't miss this fun-filled day that promotes exercise, ecological awareness and clean transportation on the streets of our beautiful city!

As the success of this event depends on a community effort to ensure the safety of both cyclists and motorists, it is important to emphasize that participating bicyclists must respect traffic signs and signals to ensure their own, as well as the automobile drivers' safety. (All participants are responsible for their own safety.) For more information, visit the World Playero Bike Ride page on Facebook.
