July 24, 2014

Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico - For the second consecutive year, the Ana María team, consisting of Esteban Torres, J. Mark Martínez, Freddy Rodríguez León and Alejandro Nájera Osuna, won first place in the Marlin fishing category of the annual Banderas Bay Marlin & Tuna Fishing Tournament, held at the Paradise Village Marina on July 19th, 2014.

With their capture of a 218.6 kg (480 lbs) Blue Marlin, which was hooked in the El Banco area with live bait, the first-place winning team took home a prize of $60 thousand pesos in cash, a Costa del Mar sunglasses and visor 4 pack, a miniature Marlin sculpture, and a winner's plaque for their vessel.

Taking second place in the Marlin category was Team La Nonna, composed of Giorgio Simone, Marcel Poffet, Teo Poffet and Crescencio Hernández, who managed to bring in a Marlin of 100.6 kg (221 lbs.) The team's 5:56 pm arrival created a lot of excitement among attendees, as the cut-off time for the tournament's weigh-in was at 6:00 pm. Team La Nonna was awarded Shimano fishing gear.

In the Sailfish category, the 1st place winner was the Lucina III team, formed by Alfredo Ocaranza, Juan Spiller, Fernando Quintero and Juan Carlos Spiller, with their game fish weighing in at 39.6 kg (87 lb). Second place went to Mauricio Plasencia Torres, Juan Manuel González, Juan Francisco González and Roberto Plasencia of Team Beluga who brought in a 32.4 kg (71 lb) sailfish. Third place was taken by Team Liliana's Fernando Civera, Cristian Gómez, Carlos González and Lilian Angulo, who reeled in a 28.5 kg (63 lbs) Sailfish and took home a Black Bart Lures kit.

In the Dorado category, Team Cielito Lindo's Joel Arturo Sánchez and Federico Orendain brought in the winning catch of 14.5 kg (32 lbs).

The fishing tournament's impeccably organized weigh-in, measurements, and award presentations were held at the Paradise Village Marina Amphitheater.

After the awards ceremony, led by Bahía de Banderas Sport Fishing Club President, David Zaragoza Camacho, raffles were held and special awards were presented, along with plenty of toasts and smiles among the 8th annual tournament's participants, organizers and sponsors - who all deserve our congratulations for being part of yet another very successful Banderas Bay Marlin & Tuna Fishing Tournament.
